Round 2 2nd April

A couple of upsets in the first 2 listed games

MAC 26 - Havelock 11

Pirates 48 Tech 6

Clive 26 - Tamatea 3

Hastings 32 Taradale 16

NOB<strike>M</strike> 27 - 19 CHB
-

Only three unbeaten teams after two rounds - Clive, Pirates, NOBM.

-

Hurricanes Tony Lamborn (Havelock Nth) and Geoff Cridge (Hastings R+S) played for their clubs this weekend.

Karl Lowe will probably be turning out for Clive this weekend against Taradale.
-

Cheers for the updates guys - I wonder, when did MAC last beat Havelock North?

Good for Cridge to get some rugby under his belt - no word on Renton?

Is Lowe finished in Japan?
-

I heard whispers he might have got some game time for a premier reserve team down here in Wellington on Good Friday and notice he was listed as being on the bench for the College Old Boys-University premier team this last weekend. There must be a relaxation for HBs Super Rugby players to allow them to play club rugby outside of HB if they so desire. Come to think of it he probably is not registered with anyone in the Bay given that until last weekend he had never played a senior grade club match before in his life. Good to see messrs Cridge and Lamborn turning out for their "home" clubs and not their Wellington "allocated clubs", good effort guys.

I note that Marvan Karawana managed to make the starting lineup for Wainuiomata on Saturday as well.

Nepia, here is a link to a recent story about Karl Lowe

I read Riccitelli had a great game for Havelock Nth, and that Lamborn and Cridge also played club rugby this weekend. Karl Lowe played for Clive again.
-

16 April (round four) Prem results

Clive 17 - MAC 20

Hastings RS 36 - Central HB 17

Havelock North 28 - Pirates 20

Napier OB Marist 47 - Tech OB 10

Taradale 61 - Tamatea 7

With Clive's loss means NOB Marist are now the only undefeated team.
-

After round eight of the Nash Cup, points table is:

Pts

34 NOB Marist

34 MAC

23 Clive

22 Pirates

20 Tech OB R+S

19 Taradale

18 Hastings R+S

15 Havelock North

7 Central HB R+S

2 Tamatea

Final round draw on Sat 21st:

Pirates v Central HB R+S

Havelock North v Clive

NOB Marist v Taradale

Tech OB R+S v MAC

Hastings R+S v Tamatea

Rules for teams tying on the same number of points - the winner of their individual match takes the higher position. In round one NOB Marist defeated MAC 33-29 so NOB Marist on top, and will guarantee winning the Nash Cup by defeating Taradale with a four-try bonus point even if MAC do the same to Tech OB. Should be an interesting final round.
-

A couple of surprising results yesterday.

1) Havelock Nth conceding 40 points and losing by 31 points - I wonder when the last time was for both of those?

2) The number two team in the Nash Cup losing by 39 points, and conceding 51 points, to the number one team in the Nash Cup.
-

I can't believe the only game I was in Napier for this year, was with my team NOB playing like crap and losing to Havelock North back at the end of April - Shannon Chase cutting us to pieces

From the Hawke's Bay Today:

MAC manager Narley Tuliau said numerous players were unavailable because of injuries. Assistant coach Vili Malaitai had to play halfback and fullback Tom Iosefo had to leave his brother's wedding to play for the below-strength hosts.

Watched Hastings RS v MAC today.

Hastings RS won 33-8, halftime was only 6-3.

Geoff Cridge played the whole game at number eight and scored a try. Mason Emerson played fullback in the first half. Was switched to the left wing in the second half and scored an excellent try taking a long cutout pass on halfway and at pace beat the fullback with an outside swerve to score behind the posts.

Hastings RS had the three tallest forwards on the park - Cridge, Sanaila Waqa, and Ben Parsons (blindside flanker). An odd tactic from Hastings RS was to call short lineouts on the majority of their throws and leave Parsons in and put Cridge and Waqa in the backs. The lock that started with Waqa only came up to his shoulders. The Hastings scrum went a lot better in the second half when Parsons partnered Waqa at lock.

Both teams goalkicking was below 50%.
-
