I see some on "Irish Twitter" are having a field day.

I'm well aware of what the monarchy stand for to some in the Republic, but I find the revelry of QE2's death distasteful. I know we have some Irish posters on here, so before they think I am tarring all Irish people with the same brush, I am not.

    Clarkson knows:

    Team

As mentioned this thread is for respectful remembrance of the Queen.

Thus I have moved some of the recent discussion to the tabloid section.

    Some memorable quotes

    On leadership:
"I know of no single formula for success, but over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together."

    On courage:
"When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future."

    On grief:
"Grief is the price we pay for love."

“I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else, I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.”

    And, of course

I myself prefer my New Zealand eggs for breakfast.

That smile and that sense of humour - photo-bombing athletes at the Commonwealth Games.

What a nice surprise when they look back to check the photo!

I frequent a UK based football forum and I was surprised to read a few quite uncharitable posts from people regarding the postponement of EPL games, and regarding the late Queen herself. Quite at odds from the example she always seemed to strive to set. I'd be interested if you could anyone who had a bad word to say about her after an actual one on one meet

I’m of the belief that death is celebrated not mourned

    @MiketheSnow

I'm with you Mike. The old question "what do you think she would have wanted" seems pertinent. I just can't imagine she'd have wanted people to sit around mourning for 10 days and not enjoying life

I'm fine either way. But the decision has been made and I certainly wouldn't be carrying on the way some have. I agree she wouldn't want everything to stop. But it is what it is

They don't make them like her anymore. She dedicated her life to making things better for everyone else. Sure she was fabulously wealthy and I'm sure she enjoyed some of the finer things in life. But you'd never know from what we saw, the epitome of old money. All accounts suggest beyond her sense of duty she was pretty down to earth, smart and funny. While her whole world was going to hell she exuded the keep calm and carry on sentiment. Charles has massive shoes to fill

The Palace have said they do not expect postponements. But soccer matches in the UK are a big drain on Police resources, which are required for official Royal events. In addition the EPL etc are going not off what the Palace are saying but what the majority feeling they get from their public. So yeah play on, but not if you can't get Police or the majority of your supporters think you shouldn't. Its quite complex to negiatiate for sporting bodies

Fair play. I was talking more generally than EPL (eg Victoria here suspending parliament for the 10 days!), but can see its definitely complex in that light.

Latest Banksy evidently. Looks like it’s dividing opinion on social media. I think The Queen would’ve quite liked it.

State funeral confirmed for 11am BST on 19th September. It will be a Bank Holiday in the UK too.

Watching the funera cortege travel through Aberdeen, what a beautiful part of the world, where there was even a tractor guard of honor as the cortege passed by - from one farmer to another - no wonder she loved it up there!

Not sure that those words have ever been uttered before.

    Perhaps 'Aberdeenshire' fits.

When Prince Charles (as was) asked Peter Cook to supper in six months' time he received the reply that Cook was dreadfully sorry, but he was watching television that night.
