Kentucky Derby is always scheduled for first Saturday every May, usually draws 160K spectators. Bob Baffert won two huge prep & qualifying races today but was subdued, saying he’s hearing Churchill Downs does not want to run the race without a crowd, so is looking to postpone to either June or September.

@JK jmac won 5 fucking races!
Yeah mate. NZ tab has a promo on his races all month and if he doesn’t win but 2nd 3rd or 4th it’s bonus bets back. Pretty dam tempting!

I wasn’t going to wager this past weekend, but COVID kept me inside, and I ended up having my luckiest/best weekend of the year. I started with a $40 bankroll. Hit a Pick 3 at Sam Houston. Parlayed some of that into the Regal Power-Superstorm exacta at Caulfield and I was up over $300 Friday night (my time). Promptly lost almost all of it playing wild exotics at Gulfstream on the Saturday, down to my last $24 played a Pick 3 and bounced back up to $300, to end the day even. On Sunday I played more wild Pick 4s and 5s at Gulfstream, and struck out.
Down to my last $74. I threw it at 50 cent Late Pick 4 at Santa Anita, 4x3x3x4 = $72. Two dollars left in my account, so played a 50 cent Pick 3 at the front of that ticket 2x2x1 = $2. That two dollar ticket hit pay-dirt, paid USD$287.45. I was very happy, not just ‘cos I won that little bet, but also b/c I was alive in the Pick 4. I then had a panic attack inspecting my ticket to discover my first selection (#2) wasn’t on the ticket, I didn’t have my old-man reading glasses and selected horse #1 at 50-1. At least I had three other selections in the slot, and thankfully one of ‘em came from the clouds along the rail to win by a whisker in a photo finish. Payout $USD2,196.85.
My best afternoon of the year. I was so exuberant I started playing quarterhorses at Los Alaminos on Sunday night — and I never play quarterhorses. Hit a Pick 3 and a Pick 4, won another $450, topped out the day over $3K.
If I could only bottle it.

Isn't it brilliant when you get a day like that!!! Well done mate.
While not on the same level, but the same input, I was waiting for the TAB machine and had a $2 coin which I whipped into the pokies and max spun it. Free Spins and pulled out $200. Always good to collect on minimum input.

Alligator Blood a drug cheat! oooooh....
Golden Slipper this weekend. Wide open. I've taken Minhaaj at 17s. It was an emergency, but 2 scratchings and i think it's in. Come in to 14s in the hour since i put my bet on.
Take that "tip" with a huge grain of salt given the couple of weeks i have had.

That AB positive swab was for suppression of mares/fillies coming into season. It's no help to Geldings, I understand, and sounds like a genuine stable mistake. I bet a filly got into sseason!

Heard it can be used to calm down an unruly gelding? May have been needed after AB had sat on the motorway so long. He was still very on edge in the mounting yard that day, but ran beautifully

Is through internet forums though or from a Trainer that does so?

Also not aware of any racing forums on internet!
I can thoroughly recommend you DON'T find the NZ ones. They make the Fern look positively sane.

Maybe have seen one of them some time back and well I didn’t bother venturing back!

Aqueduct Suspends Live Racing After Positive Coronavirus Test
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced that live racing at Aqueduct Racetrack will be suspended until further notice due to changing circumstances in the racing community relative to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
A backstretch worker who lives and works at Belmont Park tested positive this morning for the coronavirus. [...]
That’s the main racetrack in New York City
Shame, I had a late Pick 4 tomorrow ready to win large. Curious whether the Daily Racing Form and/or TimeformUS will give me a credit on the PPs.

tomorrow's Slipper day getting cancelled would be pretty much the last straw for me. i fucking need this

@JK I gave up on horse forums decades ago, too much bad negative energy. Maybe things have changed, but I suspect not. Nowadays I follow several handicappers on twitter, I’ve found some good decent tipsters who love racing and share info, angles and wisdom, and their followers usually have positive energy and will direct you to good stuff elsewhere on the web. My experience fwiw.
-
@JK I also listen to several podcasts, usually when I’m washing the dishes, to inform and motive me about the coming big races and meets as well as post-mortems from the week before. I like tipsters who’ll try to analyze what happened in the race, and how the tote board might have done wacky things and where the money was going, etc, and that’s something I don’t do enough — self-analysis of my losers. Looking at what happened in the race and seeing where things fell apart for me, and learning from it. Especially with the roughies. There was a Pick4 at Gulfstream today that paid $19K (the Pick 5 Paid $105K) and there was a pair of legs hit by a 31-1 shot and a 20-1 shot and I want to examine the form sheet and earlier videos to see wtf I missed.
-
I really hope more tracks in the States don’t close. On Saturday NBC has scheduled horse racing to replace all their cancelled live sports programming. This could be the best shot Americans have had in a long time to discover the sport. (I’ve also been thinking lately I could be taking advantage on the tote board with sports-betting-junkies-that-don’t-ordinarily-wager-on-the-ponies who need their fix and are throwing big dollars down on foolish bets. I’m hopin’ any way...)

I have watched a lot of racing over the past 6 months, especially the racing channel here, and i have learned that
most of the "analysts" and tipsters can tell you a good story, showing you the last run, and the trial, and a head to head race this prep, something that would have taken a couple of hours for just a single race but
in the end, they usually pick the favourite, and for all their certainty, they don't get it right any more often than me, with a 5 minute read as the horses get to the mounting yard.
I'm sure they put a shit load of work in, because there is a fuck-ton or racing in this country, but if you just followed them you would go broke.
