Some Do back at Alex Park tomorrow night in R2. Listed Sires Stakes race for mares. She's capable enough and has drawn inside the hot favourite, so hopefully we actually see some gate speed tomorrow night or at least lands reasonably handy. My good mate is in town so we'll watch together, but we've never watched a winning effort from one of our horses together (in a tote race at least) so that is overdue to change.

@Smudge haha i love "I'm due!"
We've only watched a race together maybe 10 times out of all of our horses' combined starts of about 80 starts over the last 15 years, so we haven't given ourselves a huge chance...

@Smudge Is it just me or has Some Do had a bit of a rough deal with wide draws in recent times?
Yes and no. The last couple of races have been under Preferential Barrier Draw conditions, which means the higher-rated runners are given the worst draws. It's another form of handicapping.
But yeah, she hasn't had a lot of love on the draw front outside of that.

Debacle.
Bostonian at $10s is the only reason it's not the worst day ever
-
Looking back at the day so far and...
32 runners on the short list
12 winners - best Bostonian, sangria, fifty stars
11 places (but not all runners backed to place)
3 trifectasMissed a 4 leg multi on nonpaer at morphetville meaning it’s was a non payer
8 out of 9 on my place multi and fingers crossed for the last -
The guaranteed Empire 6 jackpot today (Sunday) is a million dollars. Were these robbers a day early? Did they know the cash for the jackpot was being delivered?? I see movie possibilities. Love this New York Post headline.
Armed gunmen swipe ‘a lot of money’ in Aqueduct Racetrack heist
Two guys cleaned up big at Aqueduct Saturday night — robbing the Queens racetrack at gunpoint and making off with as much as a quarter-million dollars.
The brazen bandits, who were being sought Sunday morning, pulled the heist at around 10 p.m. Saturday, some four hours after the tenth and last race of the day, swiping “a lot of money,” according to an Aqueduct employee.
[...]
And how’s this for opportunism, using a Covid-19 panic for cover:
“A police spokeswoman told The Post that the two robbers wore surgical masks and that the robbery occurred at the racetrack, not at the adjacent Resorts World Casino, which was open at the time.“
-
@Salacious-Crumb When I first left school (in the days when everyone used cash), I worked for a bank in Christchurch.
After Show Weekend, we got the takes from both Riccarton and Addington (possibly two days at each). The Head Teller told me there was a million dollars on the table and it certainly looked that way. I always thought that if I was going to do a heist that would be my target.

Aqueduct racetrack employee says armed robbery was an inside job

I really hope USA racing cleans up this crap. It’s done state-by-state, but should have ripple effects. Some big name heads could roll...
NBC News: Federal prosecutors and the FBI in New York to hold a press conference at 11am today to announce charges against 27 people in the professional horse racing industry (including vets and trainers) in a scheme to allegedly illegally dope racehorses.
I’ll be watching the presser live later this hour...
-
Melody Bell draws gate 5 for the All Star Mile, and m4l's futures bet at $9 looks okay.
Alligator Blood draws wide, but who cares because he was heading for the front anyway.

This will have an effect across the racing world. The equine welfare efforts have gone through the roof recently in Aus & NZ, but this will raise fresh questions in this part of the world. Much like human athletes, the vets/integrity bodies seem to be a few steps behind the latest drugs seeping into racing.

It's one thing to beat your age group but when you are up against all open class, it's the real test.
I'm backing Melody Belle too.

Yeah its a great draw. Hopefully Opie can get her in a nice spot.
After that massive bias day at caulfield a few weeks back I put a $10 bb on Streets of Avalon at $61 for what would be a massive boilover but hey its a group 1 leader and loves to lead (and will). Never won at the distance tho but is a horse that holds form and Ben Melham has a great record on it. Worth a roll of the dice at those odds.
SO yeah think it will push across with Aligator Blood but Streets of Avalon push further forward and lead. AB then one back. Not a lot of pace in the race to be honest so could be interesting how it all unfolds. Really would love our girl Melody Belle to win this!

So would I. She really is the current queen of the turf here in NZ. Jamie Richards is a fabulous ambassador for our sport too.

i've heard good reports about her gallop the other day, big improvement from her last run
