I might almost have enough to buy into Mulligans now.
fuck that's mean!!

Well, since it's Christmas - are you guys old enough to remember Lord Module?
He was a stroppy bastard - inclined to break hopelessly if you had money on him - but, when he put his running shoes on he was the harness racing equivalent of Usain Bolt.
This is just a legendary line-up of horses in the Allan Matson Free-for-All...
And an earlier NZ Cup

Sectionals didn't really suit Some Do, but 3rd is some money for the owners. ie. me (well, my 1.67% share).

I was just reading Sydney Morning Herald year-in-review for racing and they mentioned the Frankie Dettori balls-up in The Cup; which reminded me (again) of his cockup in the 1998 Breeders Cup Classic. That race is the biggest Open championship race in America, and at that particular year was the richest prize in world racing and was arguably the best field in the history of that race (link below). And jeebuzfuck does Frankie pooch the whole thing!! (He’s aboard SWAIN - the Godolphin horse in the blue silks.) WTF is he doing with the whip??!! Most of the time he’s great, maybe the best in the world, but geeze does he find the right occasions to pull some of the biggest brainfarts in world championship racing.
If you’ve never seen... and you really need to see the stretch replays with your jaw on the floor...
LONG VERSION (INCL. PRE- AND POST RACE) (Race begins after 21 min mark):

Love the race caller announcing the winner (what a great name!!) at the tape.
A Look Back: The Greatest Classic Field?

Need You Now has drawn well at barrier 2 in the $150,000 Sires Stakes Championship at about 5.30pm tomorrow at Alexandra Park.
Hoping she'll hand up to her stable mate and get some cover so she can sprint late rather than leading up like last time. I'd suggest a place bet but she's a bit short in the market.
Not there this time but neither is my mate who is the usual on-course jinx.

I see Winterbride is over here for the Railway on New Years day. $12 on TAB....nice futures bet IMHO
So Julius how good a story is that!?!?!
Had the futures bet on winterbride at $12 and a fair bit on the big boy too. So good to see him return from injury and still go beast mode
Winter bride a close second. Got smashed in to less than $3 too

Brilliant! My old man follows the ponys pretty hard, so we were all around the tv.
Good ride too.

@Smudge Missed this..luckily, I see!
Yeah, both her and her stablemate went poorly. Stipes asked questions after the race - hopefully they were under the weather, otherwise she's simply not as good as we thought.

In case you missed, here’s the false start in yesterday’s Auckland Cup.
That was a looooong time to let the ponies run to recall them. Ouch!
-
Awful day today at Omakau with Ricky May just collapsing while in the lead.
Was surreal to watch live as he just fell backwards and lay limp in the sulky as the horse kept going.
This happened about 3 hours ago and they performed CPR as ambo right there and doctors on course as punters.
Even though reports say he was flown to Dunedin he was still on course as they tried to stabilize him for the flight.
@smudge may have better details from someone in the know?

City of Auckland Cup, not Auckland Cup. A lot of news outlets seem to be getting that wrong.

Horrendous. I was there, sitting in the stand alongside a couple of mates. I happened to be looking down at my phone briefly (bloody Gen-Xer trying to be a millenial), and my mate said "oh no, this isn't good". Looked up and I couldn't see Ricky at first, but then realised he was flopping out the back of the sulky, Clerk of the course Graeme Mee did the exact right thing by grabbing the horse as a) it was heading towards the edge of the track and b) even if Ricky fell, it at least meant the ambos etc could get to him rather than chase poor Ricky & the horse. I talked to Graeme afterwards as he's a guy I always got on with when I was working in Otago and he was clearly shaken but I told him job well done in case no one else had told him.
I've heard many conflicting reports but the general consensus is he wasn't breathing shortly after people reached him. He may have been not breathing for a long time before he was revived (junior driver Ellie Barron is a champion who performed CPR on him), so that is the obvious concern.
One of the most humble blokes you'd ever meet and always happy for a chat. I recall giving him a call the day before the NZ Cup and where was he? Out on his tractor on his farm in Methven, just going about his farm work. No airs and graces yet the guy's won 7 NZ Trotting Cups. A freakishly patient driver. The industry needs him to pull through.

@Smudge wowsers. I didn’t realise you were there.
Here’s hoping for some sort of recovery.
Part of my southern sojourn - Kurow on the 30th, Omakau trots today, Omakau gallops tomorrow, and Roxburgh trots on the 4th. Just tough seeing so many people I knew and the stories they were sharing (one is harrowing but I'm not sharing it online).
Roxburgh is going to be a difficult day, I suspect.

dont ya hate it when you chuck a few dollars at one of the 2 longshots in a race, and you choose the $34 one, and the $45 one wins!
