Just a great, great win for Melody Belle.
-
Comms just mention Melody Belle has won more G1s than any other horse in the world this year.
Awesome.
Opie had her well back at the turn, came around them all and exploded home.

I didn’t think I was going to get anything on Melody Belle alone (8/5) so played a $2 Exacta with her on top and six others in the two-hole, total wager $24, won me $100.90.
(I should have played the exact same numbers in the 20-cent superfecta though; those combinations would have cost me $24 bet and it paid — wait for it — $2,414.11. Even when I get it right I shit the bed on these fucking wagers. Regardless, thank you Melody Belle for winning me some money tonight!!)

Kiwi-bred Kolding takes the inaugural $5.8-million dollar Golden Eagle at Rosehill in a thrilling finish. Took him on top in another small $2 Exacta with him on top and Brutal and Sunlight underneath, won it on the latter. [Update:] $227.40. It always feels good making money backing a Kiwi.

What s fucking day at Flemington. Weather was shit, but buying grandstand seats right on the finishing post was an inspired choice. Amazing view, pretty easy to get beers, decent looking women everywhere.
Punt went fucking great. Getting the first two winners at decent odds means you are playing with house money all day. Ended the day well up, and with a half dozen bonus bets.

@bayimports yep my day sucked too, culminating in taking SA 1-12
-
@taniwharugby sorry to hear, but at least you made me feel a bit better, knowing I wasn't the only one

At 15 or so to go they were up 12-6 and England were looking desperate. 13+ was $9 so grabbed $100 worth of that which in the end turned to gold

Started with $25 and parlayed that into $330 at Flemington and Rosehill backing kiwibreds in exotics. Wagered all of the winnings on the seven Breeders Cup races at Santa Anita, so I was down to $4 in my account. Did not cash a single ticket for the first six races, that was five hours of torture turtled in a fetal position, before two bets in the last race (The Classic) netted me $650, so that felt good. I wish I could roll $25 into $650 every weekend. Trust me, it rarely-if-ever does. I’m going to bank $500 and spend $150 at Flemington for Tuesday, likely save $100 to wager on The Cup.

I always struggle with the MC as a serious betting race but love to play a few exotics as you know if you hit them it will be big money.
Yet to have a serious look but will be working around Mustajeer along with CrossCounter (surely can win two in a row though right?), Mer De Glace (concern is it may not quite see out the distance) and Surprise Baby
Any of the NZ locals heading out to Ellerslie on Tuesday?

I drew Surprise Baby in the Calcutta so will be cheering that on. Maroney was over our way and he is really happy with his $100 shot, Sound. Have backed that too

Big question marks on Mer de Glace whether can stay the distance, but if you’re playing the multis you cannot leave out. There were q’s in the Caulfield too, answered with an exclamation mark.

I just heard a track comm at Ballarat talking-up Rostropovich and I checked the form and it’s morning-line is 80/1. Hasn’t done sweet diddily-squat since a 5th place in the last Cup, and I’m thinking, do I hafta keep it safe...?
-
Crikey, of the 24 starters fully 11 of them are from Ireland, and only two (the bottom-weights) are native-born Okkers.
-
Yeah had a wee bit more time to look at it and now I also have Southern France and Il paradiso in my numbers. Could end up boxing half the field at this rate!
If the track stays soft tomorrow then also makes it a bit hard for Mer De Glace to see out the run.
