Am I allowed to quietly say I actually looking forward to this game on Saturday, especially after being pretty disparaging about women's game early in year. Games I have watched I genuinely think haven't been too bad, and really believe in about 4-5 years we will have enough women who will of been playing long enough to be seeing some good skills.
I expecting Ferns to actually show us they have got their skills sorted a lot more than earlier in year. I was real pleased to hear on TV the other night, Wayne Smith and Cron are raving what great sponges the girls are for learning things. -
Quite a conservative team compared to some of the combos we have seen so far this year. Will be interesting to see if they play with the same attacking freedom that Smith was letting go earlier.
This series is being used as a further trial so I expect to see a few changes next week. Only the one player released for FPC possibly points to everyone getting a run across the two games.

@Bovidae You meaning you don't rate her game or that we don't really have another 10 option?
Demant seems more like a natural 12 than a 1st 5, but may end up playing there because of the depth in the midfield.
Tubic probably most likely but seems to prefer 15.
Tubic is amongst a number of other options for the 1st 5 position. Brazier, Subritky-Nafatali and Maliepo are others. They can't all be selected in the final squad.

I'd pick all of those players, except Maliepo, ahead of Demant at 10, but being the captain, she'll always be picked. A bit like Sam Cane, except that she's better in another position than where she's playing (12).
-
@Bovidae Interesting, I really like her at 10 because she has the ability and confidence to play flat whilst having the skillset to put other people in to holes. I kind of have her pencilled in as 10 with nobody going close to her for WC. I think we'd see more of Maliepo 10, Demant 12 at Auckland if that was likely because I definitely don't see Maliepo as a 12. Can't see her making it back in to the squad on current FPC form but she'll get her chance to showcase at 10 for Auckland with Demant out.
Brazier didn't set the world on fire for the Volcanix last year but I see her as the second best option. She had a lot of 7s bad habits e.g. taking first step backwards but hopefully Smith can coach that out of her in the short timeframe.
Subrtizky-Nafatili was brought in for her immense talent and skillset but she's constantly injured, with a huge emphasis on strength & conditioning to match the NH, I can't see her making the squad barring injuries.
Tubic has to be in the 15 somewhere, she is our best place kicker by a length & we will need that in tight WC games. -
It's a pity for the crowd attending this test match that the curtain raiser - the FPC match between Canterbury and Manawatū Cyclones - doesn't start half an hour later. I assume they've organised something for the hour in-between both games, but an hour is a long wait.

Well you need to have an hour at least don't you Star? Do FPC play extra time, but more importantly the players will need the ground for warming up. Well that's what I am guessing anyway mate.

How have they organised the ticketing? I assume you need to buy a ticket for the test to be able to go the FPC game? Otherwise, they would need to remove the spectators after the FPC game, which would be counterproductive.
Yes, that's correct. Very cheap tickets compared to All Blacks tests though.
