@Canes4life my algorithms must be wonky...havent noticed a huge uptick in social media stuff
A suggestion next time youre talking to him (if you want), the highlanders could share the Matatu posts, at least the score updates etc, i notice the other franchises obviously post their womens teams....the Highlanders should get behind Matatu
Follow their stories on Instagram, the Highlanders are very active on there. He took a video in the locker room pre match on Saturday shaking hands with the boys before they ran out. It's that first person content you don't see from many other franchises.
The problem with stories is that they disappear after a while. Forget to check insta stories just for 24 hours and you may have missed a lot of info. They're (generally) over-used IMO.
Working in Digital Marketing, you usually get a lot more engagement posting in stories / reels vs in-feed promotion and it's a lot easier to post on the fly instead of creating a post every time you want to showcase content, so I understand why content creators prefer that method even though content disappears after 24 hours. Most of the time story content is irrelevant after 24 hours anyway, it's more used to keep users up-to-date about what's happening in the moment.
In reference to the video above, the Highlanders posted that across all touch-points on Instagram (in-feed, reels and stories) because of the nature of that content. Whereas if it's just an injury update to one player then you probably wouldn't create a whole post about it.

@Canes4life It would be good if they shared more on twitter, too. They don't even post team line-ups there. Same complaint about the Canes btw.

Meh Twitter is a dying platform thanks to old mate Elon. Where I work we don't even post on Twitter anymore, the engagement has completely dived in the last year to almost nothing, it's just not worth the effort.

@Canes4life I know plenty of people who are only on Twitter, and sporadically on instagram. Instagram has the huge limitation that you can only post photos/(short) clips with text, and not links or highlights videos on YouTube, for example. For informing fans, Twitter and Facebook are miles better than instagram. The advantage of Twitter over Facebook is that it's far easier to filter out the things you DON'T want to see (like spam, sponsored posts) and to disable algorithms. Thanks to browser extensions, I've not seen any effect of the muskrat's decisions.

I get what you're saying and I would have to agree in some aspects as I'm part of the audience demographic that still uses Facebook/Twitter, however working in Digital I also have full visibility on how those platforms are faring in today's digital landscape.
All businesses, sporting organisations etc are competing for eyeballs on an hourly basis and want to promote effectively without breaking the bank, and being tactical about how they use their resource internally. I know Twitter is a cost-effective, quick and easy platform to share updates, but I feel a lot of organizations are going to be like 'what's the point' if the engagement is nowhere near its competitors.
A lot of businesses now would rather utilise their resource by creating content for Meta platforms and Tik Tok knowing they are going to get a lot more cut through with their spending VS spending time updating a Twitter account that has low engagement and is more geared towards affluent millennials.
Updates on Twitter are going to become less and less, and as a result the aging generation will need to either look at other channels for updates, or hope Twitter innovates and is able to pivot in a way that allows them to compete going forward.
It's like when Facebook came along, organisations started spending more money advertising through Google/Facebook ads, and spent less on your more traditional advertising methods like radio / out-of-home. It's just the way the world is going I'm afraid.

@Canes4life Do SR franchises have to pay for posting team line-ups, injury updates and photos of training?

No point posting somewhere if you're not getting engagement.
-
@Canes4life If there's lack of engagement, then it's because they don't post enough interesting stuff.
Also, all NZR accounts, the Blues, Chiefs, Crusaders, Moana Pasifika, Drua and Aussie franchises post the same content on Twitter as on other platforms. There's simply no reason why the Hurricanes and Highlanders can't do the same. It only takes a few seconds.
You didn't answer my question btw.

To answer your question above, no they don't have to pay to post on Twitter and in response to your next statement, a lack of engagement isn't always down to how regular you post. Where I work, which is a global brand, we were posting on Twitter on a regular basis up until about 12 months ago, but no longer feel it's worthwhile due to the drastic decline in engagement we've received over the period. We had a 40% engagement rate on Twitter, which is now sitting around the 5-7% mark. Our cadence of posting was similar, and the content was similar, it's just the way things have gone.
We've also had strong advice from professional agencies as to the decline of Twitter as a platform, and because we are low on resource internally means that we don't even bother now. Maybe the Canes are in the same boat or would rather tactically focus on other platforms where they can showcase a better picture to their stakeholders.

Anyway fellas off to Brisbane for a couple of weeks today, so will have to make sure I in rugby watching bars or houses at right time won't I???
Oh the problems for a rugby man!!!!Good luck finding rugby in a bar. It was bad enough before, but since rugby went to Stan, a bar that will show the rugby is a very rare find. Doubly so once the NRL season starts.

fuck is it what! i don't think there is a single bar in Cairns that has it. Apparently the Stan commercial license is pretty expensive?

Hmm, that's something I might ask Ben Alexander about if I remember. The Dock has sport on every screen, but that's obviously the type of establishment they want.
