Anyway we know that 2 have been named in DMac and Angus Ta'avao (if he feels ok).
Interesting to hear Fozzie saying a couple of ABs will drop back and get some game time with them.

Vaa'i and RTS the likely ones there. Possibly LF as well.

Just a side piece here as I was cleaning out some books and stuff the other day and came across this programme from the 2005 JABs v Oz A game.
Interesting set of players and coaches. Can't remember the circumstances for all the players but it looks like the selectors had it mostly right.

No wonder Foster loved Bridge for so long, Ralph was the blueprint.

Misprint at 14 ? Smokin Joe was well and truly the AB incumbent then wasn’t he or did Howlett, Sivi and my least favourite Gear brother have the inside running for awhile ?

It’s a bit unfair having two guys playing centre too…..

Waikato No 8 Steven Bates will captain an extended Junior All Blacks squad of 29 named today for a three-match tour of Australia later this month.

The squad includes Bates' Waikato teammate Marty Holah, one of the unluckiest to miss All Blacks selection after his storming game for New Zealand Maori against the Lions last night.

Holah was one of 18 recent All Blacks included -- notably wing Joe Rokocoko who lost out to Sitiveni Sivivatu in the All Blacks squad.

    Squad:
    John Afoa – Auckland
    Sosene Anesi – Waikato
    Ben Atiga – Auckland
    Steve Bates – Waikato (captain)
    Josh Blackie – Otago
Ben Castle – Bay of Plenty
    Jimmy Cowan – Southland
    Clarke Dermody – Southland
    Steve Devine – Auckland
    Stephen Donald – Waikato
    Nick Evans – Otago
    Corey Flynn – Canterbury
    Scott Hamilton – Canterbury
    David Hill – Waikato
    Carl Hoeft – Otago
    Marty Holah – Waikato
    Andrew Hore – Taranaki
    Jerome Kaino – Auckland
    Ross Kennedy – Wellington
    Casey Laulala – Canterbury
    Chris Masoe – Taranaki
    Luke McAlister - North Harbour
    Craig Newby - North Harbour
    Kevin O'Neill – Canterbury
    Caleb Ralph – Canterbury
    Joe Rokocoko – Auckland
    Saimone Taumoepeau – Auckland
Bernie Upton - Bay of Plenty
    Piri Weepu – Wellington

Right. Had completely forgotten about that. Henry didn’t think the NZ public could have possibly tolerated two Fijians on the wing.

@MN5 There was quite a long period where we saw wings as disposable and if they weren't scoring hat tricks the next guy would come along and do so instead.

Yep and he indicated that it will be different ones for different games. So could be 4 that drop. I see maybe Sotutu as one and maybe LF on the wing?

@MN5 for the Lions squad he went with Sivi, Howlett and Gear.

Rok played for Auckland in that close loss against BIL.

Rok was back in the ABs for the 2005 3Ns though where he played all 4 matches (started 3 on the left wing).

He went on the EOYT also.

    Howlett
    Rokocoko
    Sivivatu
    Gear
    Muliaina

    That was incredible depth.

Henry was pretty ruthless, especially in his first four years.

That’s after he’d jettisoned Caleb too.

By my count only Upton, Kennedy and Blackie that weren’t ABs or went on to be ABs.

Which is rough cos they all lost out to inferior players at various times ( which I guess you could say about lots of NZ players )

Add to them, there were a host of others that started on the wing during the Henry era

    Kahui
    Jane
    SBW
    Dagg
    Guildford
    Toeava
    Hosea
    Hamilton
    Wulf
    Tuitavake
    Masaga

Other players that I could find that were in that squad:

Robbie Fruean, Sione Lauaki, James McGougan, Ged Robinson, Karl Lowe

Luke MacAllister was originally named in this squad but was moved to the ABs when Kahui was ruled out injured (surprise surprise…)

Different ones for different games - all of those three, but I can also see any or all of Newell, Papalií, Sotutu, Fakatava,, Perofeta, Ennor, ALB and Reece getting a run for the 2nd XV.

I presume this squad will have plenty of recent AB's in it: Hodgman, Aumua, Ta'avao, Tuipulotu, Jacobson, McKenzie etc etc

Any recent AB's that in danger of missing both squads? One of the older halfbacks? Josh Ioane?
