@voodoo as you’ve posted when you played in the high school championship so I know how old you are old man….
Ah, shit

Man we made hard work of that. But great to get a win after a long drought.
Thought some of our subbing was a bit strange. A poor stretch when we didn’t have enough scoring on the court.

Didn't have fluidity on offence this game and fell in kive with the 3 again. Lost concentration on the D glass and shot fouls poorly. Nice close out in the end and a hard fought win for the home fans

If there’s been a more scrappier, turnover laden, lots of missed gimmes, NBL game, then I haven’t watched it.
Happy for the Taipans to get the win, but there was some tough moments to watch. McCall, I’m a huge fan because he is a pass first guard, but he is rocks and diamonds.
On the other hand Shannon Scott is a baller.
Creek did everything he could to try and carry his team, but most of them were TO city or couldn’t hit the side of a barn.

Your opinion means nothing to me because we started with 2 on the road
And we're 2-0

@mariner4life Wildcats putting on a show in the 1st half against your mob. 60 points in 20 minutes!
Hopefully Cairns can play a bit more D and rebound in the 2nd.
-
Smoked!
Perth were so good. Their defence was stifling.
But shit they shot the lights out. 55% from 3 to 3/4 time.
And Cairns missed even the open ones to finish around 20%Perth are still great. I fucking hate them
-
couple of points:
What really helps the money teams like perth is, they can get the top Australian players, and keep them for ages. You can't buy those players off them, they have too much coin. That Perth team last night had Cotton (naturalised, or very close too), Norton, Blanchfield, and even old man Wagstaff. That's a fucking solid core of high quality veterans that you move pieces around every year. And they have been in that Perth system for years.
Teams like the Taipans just cannot attract or keep those players. We got Worthington because he's from here and wanted to move here when he was basically done. If we stumble on a good young one he gets bought. Buol Kuol will not be with us for long. Small budget teams are constantly rebuilding rosters, and taking punts on undeveloped players hoping they come good.
And on shot selection. The NBL app has the shot maps for each game. Last nights for each team looked almost exactly like that NBA one i put up in the other thread. It was all 3-pointers or shots at the rim. Basically zero midrange stuff (the closest was cottons running floaters he only puts up to draw a foul off sympathetic refs working under the "cotton rule").

@mariner4life Cotton was certainly getting some superstar reffing last night when he drove to the basket.
But those step back 3s (4 point plays) are so tough to guard because defenders naturally move forward and then get in his landing space.
Perth have been doing the Aussie thing for so long, so there’s a great culture of lifting local talent and even having imports come off the bench. And it’s not just one or two, it’s 4 or 5

i fucking hate them, but they are such a well run organisation.
but we just cannot deny that having an enormous budget definitely helps. It allows them to make tough decisions easy. Don't fit in? well we'll cut you and get someone else. but the key is they make good decisions, there are other money teams without the success.

Up the Taipans!
Road team

United really are Perth’s bogey team. Another win for United in Perth, meaning they’ve won their last 7 against the Wildcats.
I thought Cotton forced it a bit in the 2nd half. He was on fire in the 1st but there’s tough shots and then there’s forcing it. Corey Webster did have a chance to tie right at the end too.
Big test for the Breakers tonight.

Wooohooooo. Love beating the Phoenix. What a game. Rob Lowe was awesome. Leafa and McDowell-White were excellent with the ball on the pick n roll.
Loved it.

Rupert had a coming out game of sorts, did the business on offence in the first half and threatening defensively with his length. Guards drived and dished well tonight, the bigs dined out on short jumpers. All that without Browne playing due to a mysterious coach's decision
-
Seems an even comp
You would pick Sydney and Perth as the best teams and yet both have an early home loss
Brisbane yet to win and Cairns only losing 1, and that home the real surprises so far

@canefan Rupert was a bit frustrating on offence, I thought he got himself into some awkward positions, but I love his perimeter defence with his 7’3 wingspan. Disrupted the Phoenix ball handlers on several occasions.
First half he was great. Second half tried to force it a bit I think. Seems to have good temperament
