I see that DMac is part of the AB camp. I doubt we'll find out which other AB XV players were invited.

I think they have a fairly loose squad training early in WC year? I know usually they have had meetings of leadership group of team by now.

TTT is back with the Chiefs as Roe's injury replacement. A big chance for Ratima now to get regular minutes.

Just as one door shut, another one has opened for Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi, with the former All Blacks halfback to return to the Chiefs for this year’s Super Rugby Pacific season.

Having gone unwanted among the Kiwi clubs for 2023, the 27-year-old had got a reprieve in being drafted into the Highlanders as injury cover for Folau Fakatava, but with Fakatava making better than expected progress in his non-surgical recovery from an ACL injury, it was back out into the cold for Tahuriorangi.

That was until his former Chiefs side came calling, with Xavier Roe ruled out for the season after opting for surgery on a niggling shoulder injury.

The Chiefs obviously wanted a more experienced player than Adam Lennox or Connor Collins. McMillan knows him well.

Fair call IMO. If Weber was to get injured you at least have some experience around in the backups. Ratima is still developing.

@Bovidae It may be the last year of captaincy for both. Brad because he's likely to leave NZ after the RWC. Sam, because he'll probably take a sabbatical in 2024.

Grrrrr! Dmac named at 15 in one of the lineups for the pre-season against MP.
Garland and Ioane named at 10.
I hope that’s not a sign of the season plan

@Crucial Let's see who plays where next week. I see the selections at 10 and 15 about giving those players 40 mins. At least Stevenson starts at fullback in the 2nd half.

I might have to fly back to Hamilton and go kick McMillan in the nuts.

The Chiefs seem to be training at St Paul's. I might have to sneak down and have a look.

God I hope you're right because McKenzie has all attributes to be the best 10 in NZ, cautiously awaiting a Dmac Jordie 10-12 axis for 2024. Sullivan or Love should cover 10 off the bench unless Mo'unga returns for the 2027 event, then it'll be anyone's guess..

@kiwi_expat Love has the potential to become a good fullback, but I've found him quite disappointing at 10 at SR and NPC level.

I am as keen as anyone to see Sullivan at 10 because I suspect he may be pretty useful there, but to say he should be bench cover at 10 for the ABs next year is big call. We don't actually know if he is any good at 10 or not.

And not likely to get much game time at 10 in SR this season.

McMillan gave Gatland and DMac 20 mins each at 1st 5 and Ioane played the full 2nd half. Reihana wasn't involved.

Not wanting to read too much into a pre-season game but what is the story with Reihana. Hardly given any opportunity last year and when he did he looked quite sharp only to disappear again. I know they have Trask earmarked to come back and Gatland/DMac/Ioane are unknowns for 2024 but surely they are carrying Reihana for a reason?
