From the players autobiographies, the Ireland leg of the shit-fest that was the '72-73 tour was the happiest and the one place they felt made them feel welcome.

Great reffing. It’s always pissed me off to no end that refs typically come down hard on retaliators, often letting the scummy instigator off. Typically after turning a blind eye to a stream of niggly cheap shots.

Loved the way the blonde Welsh 6 stands there thinking "No point in getting involved...I'll wander over when he stops hitting people..."

@Victor-Meldrew I've had an audio file of that for years. Good to see it's on the internet.

Dean Richards was such a dirty prick.
a dirty cheating prick. As well as kicking john Timu in the head on the touchline around '93, he got done for Bloodgate and completely banned from Rugby for 3 years.

Pretty much a forgotten tour. Only notable thing was Dave Solomon was the first Fijian to play for the All Blacks and losing twice in Wales and against England. Interestingly the kicker in the first game uses a round-the-corner style - thought that came in around the 70's.

This is the one specific North Auckland game that sticks in my memory the most.
It was my 10th birthday, we played our game that morning at Kensington Park, then Mum and Dad (with chilly bin full of BYO Lion Reds) took me and a handful of mates to Okara Park to watch, loaded up with hot chips and fizzy drink.
We recorded the game on the old VCR, watched it back later and much to my delight, I’d made it onto TV, in the background during the after match interviews.
Look how full Okara Park was too, those were the days 👌🏼

I was at this game. What isn't obvious on the video is the low fog that appeared at northern end of the ground near FT. We had almost no visibility driving back south around Pokeno/Meremere/Rangiriri.
I was at that game too, but have no memory of the fog whatsoever, I just remember Wilson scoring lots of tries.
