If that was a ruck it wouldn't be out, so why is it out of a maul?

because the ball is off the ground?

Half backs do that all the time in rucks?

Because refs let them do that (it's more prevalent in the NH) it's no reason to allow forward passes.

I had a feeling this might be competitive just because the Highlanders are such a bad attacking team.

A nice pass from Smith and his backline all stand still and refuse to catch the ball.

Fucking maul stopped twice again. Although I'm surprised the ref called the first stoppage.

It's a very hard thing to time 5 seconds. It's not like they have a device that could do it for them

Backwards out of the hand, drifted forward is the decision I assume.

I thought so at first, but the sideline angle looked much more like momentum.

It would've been galling to not award it after some of the maul decisions.

Give the Highlanders the MP backline and this game is already over.

Highlanders may rue Hunt's inability to kick a conversion.

@dice given Gregory played 7s, he offers no attacking threat, his ball security and tackle accuracy is poor (last year defence and ruck work was very good)

For a team that struggles to defend the maul you'd think MP would try to avoid giving away penalties.
