Black Caps vs Netherlands
-
Quite conservative squads, tbh. Taking it seriously, no bolters. Very old teams.
-
Quite a few sons/nephews of Black Caps in there.
Speaking of which can anyone tell my why Doug Bracewell keeps getting selected ?
-
@bovidae said in Black Caps vs Netherlands:
The squads have been named, which excludes all IPL players.
New Zealand ODI squad: Tom Latham (capt, wk), Doug Bracewell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Henry Nicholls, Ish Sodhi, Ross Taylor, Blair Tickner, Will Young
New Zealand T20I squad: Tom Latham (capt, wk), Doug Bracewell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Dane Cleaver (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Scott Kuggeleijn, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Will Young
A couple of well-deserved call-ups for M Bracewell and Cleaver.
So very quickly off the top of my head, we are missing the following names from those squads;
Kane
Conway
Phillips
Mitchell
Siefert (probably dropped more than rested)
Southee
Boult
Santner
Blundell
FergusonThere’s probably other obvious ones I’m missing, so these are very much b squads, to be expected against The Netherlands I suppose.
Think they’ve missed a trick by not selecting a couple more younger players to see how they go, as someone else mentioned we have very old looking teams -
@bovidae said in Black Caps vs Netherlands:
@gunner 12 players are missing due to the IPL according to the media release.
Ahhh, Roger.

Latham, Bracewell, Bracewell, Kuggers
4?
-
They let the IPL guys go early which is understandable on one level but Boult now has been unavailable for four of the last six tests and three ODIs. So basically the entire home summer.
-
Is Adam Milne heading to the IPL?
I would have thought Cam Fletcher was a better prospect than Cleaver.
-
The NZ eleven named to play in the 3 warm up fixtures (starting today) has Jock McKenzie from Auckland. Is that the same young guy that has been training with the Blues as WTG First five?
The New Zealand XI face Netherlands behind closed doors in two one-day matches at Napier’s McLean Park on March 17 and 19 followed by a one-off T20 on March 21 – with all three matches live-streamed and scored at nzc.nz.
New Zealand XIMichael Bracewell (c) (Wellington)
Matt Bacon (Otago)
Matt Boyle (Canterbury)
Josh Clarkson (CD)
Dane Cleaver (wk) (CD)
James Hartshorn (Wellington)
Mitch Hay (Canterbury)
Jayden Lennox (CD)
Angus McKenzie (Otago)
Jock McKenzie (Auckland)
Tim Pringle (ND)
Ben Sears (Wellington)
Jesse Tashkoff (Wellington) – game 1
Ross Taylor (CD) - games 2 and 3

Should be an interesting series but cant say I'm too excited by our squads.
Netherlands team isn't horrible and has come a long way in recent times. A few local lads in there incl me mate Max Odowd who has a pretty awesome stat of something like 50 odd international appearances without ever having a duck. Wonder if he can make it through the series.
edit - this stat https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/284086.html
A long way ahead of any other player too -

A long way ahead of any other player tooFun fact - I went to see the Netherlands play Scotland in Amsterdam. Was great fun - small crowd, lovely ground by the canals (complete with nets and a looooong handled ball collection device), dutch beer, cheese, and a cordoned off ICC area with no phones to try and avoid bookmakers.
Sat under a tree, on chairs provided, drank beer, ate cheese, shot the breeze and had a lovely day out. Scotland got up and won with 7 wickets and about 2 overs left.
They're a fair short form team, but our teop team we should win comfortably. Missing the stars though, who knows. Can't say I'm super excited

Can't say I'm super excitedI’m the same, but I’m grateful it’s someone other than Bangladesh. Though I’m not expecting any close games, a new opposition always makes it an interesting watch for me.

@stargazer As I am currently in Napier I am gutted that no spectators are allowed into McLean Park. Shame they could not play it over on Nelson Park where it would be impossible to keep interested spectators out. One would have thought they would be encouraging any spectators remotely interested in cricket to turn up and watch in these days of almost zero attendances at local cricket. And yes I am a fairly regular attender at Plunket Shield matches at the Basin Reserve, along with about a dozen or 20 other viewers on a good day.
-
@higgins Yeah, there were only expensive hospitality packages available.
It's strange. Last year, when there were also crowd restrictions, they still let in plenty of spectators during our NPC games. Maybe that was the HBRU's work, I don't know. The same crowd restrictions apply now (with vaccine pass), but it seems they (NZ Cricket?) can't be bothered.
-
@stargazer Not for the BoP game they didn't, although it was noted there was a more than a fair share of away supporters present to see their team's demise.
-
280/8 - decent total after not the best start. Bracewell 127 no
-
Is this actually the Black Caps or a “NZ XI”
Nothing about this on cricinfo at all.
-
@mn5 it's an NZ A side.

It's an NZ XI. No NZ A.
Not even a List A match status (although it should be, if it isn't going to be 12-a-side), let alone an ODI.
Basically a collection of youngsters who aren't in the provincial teams for plunket shield, plus some of the squad who will play the lone T20I; Cleaver, Sears (although he's 12th man today). Plus M Bracewell to captain them
Although Josh Clarkson would be NZ A level in this format.

@canes4life said in Black Caps vs Netherlands:
@bovidae awesome to see Michael Bracewell get the nod, he has been Mr consistent for Wellington for a long time. Well deserved.
Yeah, really glad he's getting a crack, very powerful striker of the ball.
-
The traditional Hawkes Bay drought breaking rain (albeit only light drizzle at this stage) has arrived so highly unlikely today's T20 match between the Dutchies and the NZ XI will take place. Wouldn't be surprised if the teams even bother going to the ground let alone tossing the coin. Looks like the Cricket HB 500 Championships will be taking place!
-
How's it looking for tonight?
I like that we're donning the teal and black for this game (maybe the ODIs as well?) Aside from anything else it's a clash of two of the more recognisable international colour schemes.
-
No game in Napier will happen. Lucky its only 1. That low ain't moving.
-
What's the saying? If you want to break a drought in Napier schedule a cricket match?
-
Can confirm you won’t get a game of cricket here tonight, even from this far out.
-
Fucking Napier and cricket. If it's not raining, it's a sun strike delay. The only thing that vanue has been good for historically is stat-padding for batsmen. In fact if the region didn't produce some stonking chardonnay it could just fuck right off into Hawkes Bay and no-one would miss it.

Wow, I’m glad @Nepia isn’t a cricket fan. A post like this would break his heart.

Jesus, that was confusing, seeing a notification for a cricket thread.
Anyway, I like a good @shark hissy fit, his Chiefs ones back in the day were epic and he's been a bit quiet of late.
Also, I have to fact check him, the bay we would fuck right off into is called Hawke Bay, the province Hawkes Bay.

You Of Plenty's can just refer to both as The Bay.

Yeah sorry about that. It's because the Chiefs have been shit and Cane's dubious rights to the captaincy and an All Black spot fullstop are quite rightly in question so I've had little to be upset about. But wait until tomorrow night because if we lose I'm going to blame Jacinda for allowing a parochial crowd and you'll really see me throw one.
