Do you think it is about time we took the Shield on Tour to give some of the minor unions like Bay of Plenty another chance after last years failed attempt? It is noted that Wellington has managed to weazle another Challenge, you'd think they must be getting heartedly sick of recording losses when up against Hawkes Bay by now! How has Auckland and Taranaki managed to avoid having to take us on yet the combined Cheque Book United Invitation outfit gets another Shield Challenge this season.....................................

NPC is now played in two pools. A province now plays every other province in their own pool and 4 cross-over games against provinces in the other pool.
Provinces in our pool are: Waikato, Counties Manukau, Otago, Southland, Wellington, BOP.
Our cross-over games are against: Manawatū (away), North Harbour (home), Canterbury (away), Ta$man (home).
I've tried to rationalise who picked who, but witht he complicated selection process for cross-over games (see below), it's a lot of guess work. All you can say is that in the first round of selections, the HBRU had 6th pick for a home game, so only two provinces would have been left to chose from for a Ranfurly Shield game (either North Harbour or Ta$man).
In the 2nd round of picks, the Magpies would have been picked for an away game (for the Magpies), so by Manawatū or Canterbury.
In the 3rd round of selections, the HBRU would be 2nd to pick for an away game, so (again) Manawatū or Canterbury.
In the 4th and final round of selections, the Magpies would have been picked for a Ranfurly Shield game in Napier, by either North Harbour or Ta$man. Ta$man had first pick in that round of selections; North Harbour 6th (so only two teams left).

No.

I see Gillies Kaka is leaving Hino Red Dolphins. Not sure whether he's leaving Japan and returning to NZ, but I was wondering. Would you want him back in the Magpies squad to finish his career in black & white? Would he be better than, say, Lolagi Visinia? Gillies just turned 32; Lolagi is 29. Totally different players, physically and skill set.
Also saw the announcement of Toyota Verblitz about players that are leaving the club. Tiaan Falcon isn't on the list (but his contract expires this year). The man who kept him out of the 10 jersey most of the time, Lionel Cronje, is leaving. Interested to see what Tiaan Falcon is going to do. He hasn't played much this year and has been very, very quiet on social media. I wonder whether he's injured ...

The powers that be would not dare tinker with the black and white hoops that have served us so well since 1884. The black stripe up the sides that appears from time to time was almost too much to take but at least the integrity of the hoops remained intact.

@Number-10 I hoped Cooper Flanders would make the squad. Maybe not allowed because of NZ U20s? On the hand, Harry Godfrey is in the squad. Can't imagine Godfrey not making the NZ U20s, although the differnce may be that Godfrey is a signed Magpie.
I hope the HBRU are going to post a proper team sheet with numbers, so I don't have to try to figure it out myself haha. Don't know all the players, so don't know what their positions are. I guess I'll have a closer look at the past weeks' club team lists ...
