What a day for us Carlton fans. Feels like a Premiership win.
It wasn't just the result, but the manner of the win. Rolled over them in the 4th and kept going. So unlike anything we ever do.
Cause for much optimism. Cerra looked great, Hewett was very good and we still have Walsh to come back. Hopes of making the 8 actually look realistic.
lids are off!!
Book GF tickets immediately
Favourite comment on the win was: "Voss survives another week"
jesus you must be dizzy
I've never seen two teams turn as many corners as the Wallabies and Carlton

@mariner4life Kouta and Fev are due back in rounds 5383 and 6384 and they'll be premiers

Now that I've heard both recordings, I have zero sympathy for him. Mainly based on the longer one where he essentially says "don't treat me like shit, I'm not Asian, black, gay or a woman" as if these four groups can be treated like shit but a straight white guy is beyond reproach. What a fucking tool. To be honest I'm less concerned about the one where he identifies a co-worker as the hottest woman at Fox, because it's actually quite complimentary, until he gets to the bit where he says it's a shame she's gay: "unfortunately she has her liquor/licker licence and she's really fucking good at it". But that's more a stupid blokey comment which any of us might hear to some degree at work or at the pub at any given time, as opposed to the former comments which indicate a level of bigotry, as well as extreme stupidity. He's clearly sauced but that's no excuse for that sentiment and he just sounds like an out and out piston wristed gibbon.
My guess is one of his 'mates' who maybe isn't so much of a fan, didn't mind the Beveridge spray so when he apologised to Morris, this former mate decided to leak the recordings.

100% agree
His apology is cut.and paste media management too
To follow your comment, of the two recordings it surprises me that the Fox presenter one is getting more traction than the other.

Also has anyone checked on @ACT-Crusader after the Saints got beat by the worst team in the comp?
-
I see the AFL is still getting shit over starting the season on a Wednesday night. It's certainly a bit strange and even though attendance was down on the traditional season-opener, it was still a record for a game between Melbourne and the Dogs. I like the GF rematch concept although as someone said, the NFL idea of pitting the premiers against an exciting, emerging side is also a goodie. Fair to say though that these two sides have by far the best idea as to where they're at following that game, and the Dees wouldn't have achieved that by virtue of playing anyone else.

Boomfa
Play shit but beat a top 4 side.

Sorry, who beat the Crows this week?

Round 1 Knee Jerk Reactions
Melbourne will not lose a game all year. Too big, too strong.
And in the GF they will beat... Carlton!! who just have the bestest midfield in the comp apparently. Carlton must still have a huge following because by christ the AFL media loves to talk them up.
Lol at Essendon. Another preseason talking it up, absolutely smoked in Rd 1.
Richmond are cooked.
West Coast are gooooorn
The Swans will make the Top 4. GWS won't be far behind them. Also, did you know Buddy was close to a thousand goals? If you didn't, he is close to a thousand goals. And he can't get there fast enough, because the commentators reaching fever pitch if he gets within 10m of the ball does my fucking head in.
Nice for the Suns to get a good early win, on the road, with young talent dominating. -
good win for the swannies, to run over the top of the Giants who have actually been a bit of a bogie team for us in the last few years, and to do it without papley was sweet
if buddy kicks his 1K at home you can 100% expect a pitch invasion, the support ground have been awash with plans since the final few round last year...god i want to see it

that was a bloody good game on Saturday. The first half was as fun as AFL can be. Non-stop fast ball movement and almost goal for goal.

I got through all of On The Couch last night and maybe a third of 360, and yes they're both Fox shows, but I still can't believe they completely disregarded the Morris issue and in fact only on 360 did they have a very brief soundbite of the Beveridge presser which lead it all off. So Fox seems to be completely ignoring the whole thing which I find a bit ludicrous. They need to front it, address it and move on. The network and it's hosts lose credibility in ignoring it.
-
@shark both of those shows have done their dash. Were really good maybe 10 years ago, but have got progressively worse
Robbo has become a caricature of what he used to be, so 360 got annoying. Add in the players and coaches being regulars and the level of analysis and real scrutiny has gone. Coaches night on a Monday has been for a while the best segment all week. Chris Scott was actually the best at it astoundingly. Otherwise it's "pick who lost on the weekend and talk about them like they are doomed for all time and the coach is a dead man walking" I assume it was either the Saints or the Bombers this week.
On the Couch used to be my favourite show of any football code. Gerard hadn't got really old, they had Robert Walls who had zero fucks to give, and Mike Sheahan knew an awful lot of goss. Robert Walls going hard at another failed Demons coach one day was as good as anything i have seen (actually Gerard Whately going at James Hird that day was really good too). These days it's blokey bullshit like every other panel staffed by ex-players.
As to your main point, i am disappointed but far from shocked. These guys all know they could be next, so keep your mouth shut.

I thought AFL 360 did it pretty well actually. You might have missed it but Gerard did a minute-long monologue at the end of the show, basically condemning Morris and talking about the need for change.
But primarily both shows are footy shows, and people tune in to watch discussion about footy. The Morris/Bevo thing happened on Thursday night, Morris was fired on Friday, and there were dozens of thinkpieces written between that point and Monday night.
So what's new to say? Why drag poor Megan Barnard through anything more? But also, do people want to hear it?

is there some sort of employment issue stopping them saying more? potentially can only report strictly on the facts and make sure they steer well clear of editorialising

I like both shows for all their flaws. Robbo talks way too much, some of the coach content is hit and miss, but I still think it's a pretty good hour of telly.
Jack Riewoldt is always good value. The segment with King and Montagna is quite astute. And if the coaches are good (Scott or Dimma) then it's pretty good viewing.
On the Couch has changed up a bit this year, think Gerard has retired? It generally rolls along OK but it's hit and miss.
These days it's often easier to miss the shows and browse the clips on Youtube the next day. You tend to get the best bits without the filler.

i hope to god you mean another King, and not David King. Because David King and astute do not belong in the same sentence.
