AFL 2022

Fun game last night. Melbourne off to a flyer, Dogs fight back to hit the front, then Melbourne just own the game from then on.
Petracca didn't spend offseason rest on his laurels did he? Fucking beast of a player, great skill combined with just being stronger than everyone he plays on.
Dogs showed that just bombing it to the forward line won't hurt Melbourne all that often because May is huge, moves well, and is mean to go with it.
I know it's only round 1, but that was not a bad statement from the Demons. -

See this in the post game presser? One of the most bizarre rants I've seen from Luke Beveridge. Blew up at Tom Morris at Fox for breaking team news (Lachie Hunter dropped). Went full retard.
When a guy goes off like this I think someone needs to sit him down and remind him it's just a game. Just a fucking game. He makes out like the journo is seling state secrets. And although that wasn't the forum in which to have a constructive debate, the journo at least deserved a brief right of reply. So if anyone finds that the journo has published somethine, please post it.

@shark sounds like he may have overreacted a little....but it is more than a game for these guys, its their job...fans need to be reminded its just a game but these guys livelihood depends on the results
slippery slope
This wasn't Morris posting picks of a stolen game plan
This was Morris reporting a guy wasn't going to play. I find it super hard to believe that the early reporting of that was what caused the Dogs to get beat pretty handily.
And to call it "gutter journalism" like he was reporting a story that said player was out because he's been on a meth bender, rather than, you know, form issues, is really weird.
Never have a problem with a coach going in to bat for his players, but this is not the hill to die on.
-
@mariner4life Knowing if a player was going to be selected to play is very important when it comes to placing early bets on when the odds are often better than they are late in the piece. He was doing all those punters a good service.
-
@mariner4life I loved Bevo's suggestion that upon hearing the information about Hunter, Tom Morris should have politely contacted the club and informed them they had a leaker in their midst, before shelving the story completely.

definitely, hence the over reaction, but it not just a game to these guys...they get paid to try and win

And I think if he'd ever had a real job he'd gain some perspective and realise the early release by a journo of a player not selected, isn't the massive issue he's beating it up to be.

On another note, the Sky guide has finally updated and now I can see they're showing the season opener on Wednesday, yay.
have to say, i woke up this morning, and was actually excited for the game tonight, two teams who i do not care about, but both play good footy.
Unsure about opening the season with a GF rematch, seems like that is a waste of a "blockbuster". But I'll take anything over being forced to watch Richmond pound Carlton
Turns out that didn't happen.

I'm of the opinion that this is one of those manufactured controversies that happen in AFL over a storm in a teacup.

We are living in fucked up times
Covid
War in Europe
Carlton won a game before round 4 -
Just what we needed, an injury plagued start to the season. Imagine losing the fourth quarter to the Blues ffs.
-
did i see 78k crowd?
I know theyre two big clubs and its round one after a messup couple of years...but AFL really is different level support wise
not only huge crowds a huge percent are fully decked in merch etc...you really can see how the AFL have so much money

i know it's only Rd 1, and i didn't watch closely, but from what i read, some huge concerns at Richmond

What a day for us Carlton fans. Feels like a Premiership win.
It wasn't just the result, but the manner of the win. Rolled over them in the 4th and kept going. So unlike anything we ever do.
Cause for much optimism. Cerra looked great, Hewett was very good and we still have Walsh to come back. Hopes of making the 8 actually look realistic.
