Busted leading an orgnaisation outright stealing off the people they were supposed to help.
Got himself a job of a community organisation (AFL clubs are not private companies, they stand for something) despite holding some pretty fucking shithouse beliefs. AFLW is a thing now, he's their CEO too. Hating on the gays and comparing abortions to the holocaust while leading an organisation with a women's team? That's never going to work.
Organised religion and their outdated views can do one and i have zero sympathy

goddam there is something seriously broken in the AFL's free agent and salary cap system
Geelong just absolutely robbed the fuck out of the Suns, who need to create cap space to re-sign their best talent. Why are the Suns fucked cap-wise? Because they have to overpay to keep anyone, and they are forced to spend over the cap-floor.
So along comes a club like Geelong, who gets players for unders (apparently) because they are constantly in contention, and they get a player, and a high draft pick, and GC paying some of his salary. And they just won the fucking comp.
Melbourne just picked up a superstar they don't even need, with Collingwood picking up some of the tab. Even then how the fuck are Melbourne able to afford Brodie Grundy given the rest of their list?
Somehow Brisbane are going to get two of the best kids in the draft AND the Bulldogs best and fairest winner. And they've only had to release McStay, and the lesser Berry.
Meanwhile everyone is leaving North. GWs are getting picked over again.
Every year the teams at the top get better at the expense of the ones at the bottom.
Fans of the top teams will point to the draft picks (though Collingwood got like pick 27 for Grundy?) as some sort of compensation. Draft picks are over rated. Unless you stumble on a ready-to-go talent they do nothing for your team. You need to hope you get a few at the same time, and you can keep them when their rookie deal is up.

Yeah it has to change. The Bowes trade is absurd.
Surely they have to look at the NBA style Supermax contracts that allow you to earn more with the club who drafted you than anyone else.
That's helped the small market teams keep their talent, and surely that's what the Suns and North and GWS need to keep guys like Taranto, Jeremy Cameron etc.

They haven’t got the settings right on draftee contracts either.
These players that go top 10 and then want to leave after one season, the team that drafts them are left at the mercy of the trade system (that is broken), is simply not right.
The wanting to “go home” is a real issue, but that needs to be balanced better with investment by the club.

the best kids go to the shittest teams. what do they expect? immediate improvement? And how do they improve when they lose their best players?
The go-home factor is an enormous drawback for a "national" comp without national depth

maybe free agency stuffed it for those clubs , if a player wants out , clubs trade to get what they can when they can before they walk for free,
But in saying all that , very happy we got Taranto and Hopper ,both around 23 , handy additions to an ageing midfield ,
And for us , its nice to be considered a destination club rather than a basket case

it's "i want to go home and play for this club no matter the offer"

I guess it’s a case of taking the best coach available -
I wasn’t a huge fan of Ross but I think if I’m being honest that was borne out of my dislike for Carlton and the fact he played and then went on to be an Assistant Coach there.
But he knew how to get results and probably pushed what were a group of talented players (Riewoldt, Del Santo, Goddard, Hayes, Milne, Montagna) plus a few veterans and some average types, to play some amazing footy.
A lot of the talk back has been he has never had to rebuild, but I don’t think we need him for that and that’s why he’s probably the right guy right now.
I had the chance to meet Adam Schneider and some of the stuff he said about Ross and his insight into the game was pretty amazing. The game and everything that surrounds the game - the media and mentality of players etc have changed dramatically since he was last at the Saints and even since he left Freo, and his old default personality won’t cut it. The test will be whether he will adjust and still get that positive performance and results from his players that he got at Saints and Freo

and so the Draft has happened. And the AFL media do their usual over-rating of what it actually means for clubs. Words like "elite" get thrown around about 65kg 18 year old kids, and the narrative is that teams have "found solutions" via the draft.
For every Matt Rowell (who broke down despite being built like an adult) there are a thousand kids who take years to develop in to AFL-level assets. This isn't the US where they come out of a couple of years of college, this is kids out of high school.
The Lions got the two players they wanted. Apparently one is ready to go straight away but i am not holding my breath.
North will still suck despite all their high draft picks.

Struggle to get excited about school kids.
Maybe draft should waif until they've played a couple of years jn VFL, SANFL or WAFL
