big game!
Geelong looked fucking ruthless on Friday. Smashed the Lions everywhere. If Hawkins didn't have an uncharacteristic shit night with the boot that is even uglier (than 12 goals already is, eeesh)
Sydney deservedly get the other spot. I hope they have one more big effort in them.
Good season lions. In or around the top 4 all year. Won 2 more finals than i expected. Some serious re-work needed in the offseason, as the hallmark of all our bad losses this year was getting intercept marked to death. But at least we are competing with the best teams and not talking about draft picks. except, oh look, we get the best player in the draft this year. Father/Son, how good?

a deserved winner in Cripps.
loool
if i believed in conspiracies
Somehow gets off the most clear cut suspension ever
Polls 3 votes in two losses late in the season to win by a point
Why are the AFL so set on making Carlton relevant?
furthermore, here's a stat
Carlton polled the 3rd most Brownlow votes as a team. And finished 9th.
Nah, nothing to see here...

@mariner4life for a decently high scoring game...there was a period of 36 min between goals for the swans...was getting very nervous...we were 1.1 in the final quarter

would have been a nervy finish!

@mariner4life if anything i think it made it much worse for my mate...think he had almost given up at 3/4 time and was about to just enjoy the game...and then those mother fuckers gave him hope

it's the hope that kills you

@mariner4life it’s not unusual for the Brownlow though to have high pollsters in mid-table teams because it’s often only 3-4 that dominate.
Agree on the non-suspension, but in those losses he was best on ground from watching. In particular that Pies final game, he was on another level.
Check this, Carlton got the Brownlow and Coleman medalists but didn’t make the finals - haha sucked in Blues (pretenders)

that's because, unlike the mighty Blues, Sydney are just a team that (checks notes) finished top 4 and made the GF?
make it make sense??!!
I almost hate Carlton as much as i hate Richmond
-
@mariner4life apologies, its obvious now you explain it like that

Meanwhile on the eve of the final, allegations that Clarkson and Fagan, while at Hawthorn 'separated First Nations players from families and demanded a pregnancy termination'.

Wow! Irrespective of being First Nation those allegations are way beyond acceptable behavior from people in power. That is evil stuff and they should at very least be banned from the game IMO.
I'd be looking at legal redress as well. -
I'm mindful of two things:
- They're allegations at this point so due process should be followed (no that such a thing exists on the internet), and
- I've been in positions where young men have come forward and we've implemented welfaring provisions based on the issues they've detailed to us. Not infrequently have we become aware of a vast discrepancy between the story we've been told and what they've told others.
So actions taken with the best of intentions can look awfully harsh when viewed from another position. Hopefully that's the case here and as a result the procedure for dealing with it is well documented, standardised across clubs, and agreed to be the AFL and the Players Association.
If however the allegations are found to be correct, then these coaches should be rubbed from the game.
Fagan's been at the Lions for sufficient time that such behaviour must surely have manifested itself again?

the reports out of the Club about Fagan's relationship with the indigenous players, and the steps to build the indigenous culture in the club is totally at odds with this. But, if this is as reported, and he's involved, should still go.
I too am waiting. Context will absolutely matter, because the framing of the conversation could have been very different, but something got lost.
It fucking doesn't read well, and any rebuttal from the Club will have to be very fucking careful.

however, not making light of the situation, god bless the internet
i just saw someone make this post on another forum

Hawthorn Club Statement
"Earlier this year the Hawthorn Football Club engaged external First Nations consultants to liaise with current and former First Nations players and staff to learn more about their experience at the club.
"This important work has raised disturbing historical allegations that require further investigation. Upon learning of these allegations, the club immediately engaged AFL Integrity as is appropriate.
"The club will continue to provide support to those who have participated in this process, and their wellbeing remains our priority.
"While the process indicated the current environment at the club is culturally safe, it also recommended that some of the club’s current First Nations training and development programs should continue to be strengthened.
"The club places the best interests and welfare of our players and staff as our number one priority.
"Given the matters raised are confidential, the club will not provide any further comment at this time."
