I have a correction to make. I don't think it was Mariner talking the Dees down all year, after all. Maybe a couple of slights but it wasn't you predominantly, although the way your recent comms read gave me reason to believe otherwise. I will give your wife's panties back now, un-bunched.

    good, i like those ones

i still take pot shots at Richmond despite them being the best team of the last 5 years.

Doing a pre-season ladder this year should be fun.

The Dees kicked off their pre season with an almost 100 point margin win over North. Yikes.

Nope. I think we've won the flag already.

Looking at the opening round draw (and comparing it to the Sky schedule), afl.com.au has the Dees and Dogs opening the season, on Wednesday 16/03. But looking for this on the Sky app, they seem to think this is Live on Thursday 17/03. Tend to think Sky has this wrong? But then again a Wednesday night??

wait, what? Tradition says Carlton open the season full of optimism that it's finally their year, only to be out of the game against Richmond by 3/4 time. I am not sure i can deal with anything different.

but yes, my AFL app says you are right. GF rematch on a Wednesday.

    That's a bit weird.

opening weekend is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 3 on Saturday, 3 on Sunday

and lol they have West Coast playing at home...

Actually the Saturday could be absolute quality. Cats v Bombers, Sydney derby, Lions v Port.

two weeks out, must be time for Mariner's never even close ladder prediction

Melbourne are clearly the best team. Just won the flag by about a million points, didn't lose anyone. Flag hangover or new Richmond?
The Bulldogs will be close again as well. Return of a couple of forwards will help the goal kicking, their buzzy midfield will swarm teams again as well. Are they still all good mentally after that 4th quarter? Preseason seems to say yes.

After those two it gets a bit muddled. Port are good but getting old and there is still the question mark over Hinkley. Geelong are even older, but always win enough games every year to be there or thereabouts. The Lions get a couple back from injury which should help, but i still feel like we give up to many, and don't kick enough.

Then the next group. Sydney seem to be on the rise, and no longer need Buddy to kick a lot to win games. GWS are still good enough to play finals. Richmond might feel they have one last crack at it before the top end of their list falls over.

Then the unknowns. Are Essendon really good enough? Is this the year Carlton finally play in September? Who or what are St Kilda? Have Freo really improved? And what part does the WA border play on their season?

Collingwood are shit and will be down the bottom. North have good youth but nothing more. The Suns just lost King, and Dew is a shit coach. West Coast are in freefall, smashed by injures and Covid and an old list. Hawthorne nowhere. Crows Nowhere. So what do we get?

    Melbourne
    Western Bulldogs
    Port
    Brisbane
    Geelong
    Sydney
    Richmond
    GWS

    Essendon
    St Kilda
    Carlton
    Freo
    West Coast
    Hawthorn
    North
    Adelaide
    Suns
    Collingwood

Melbourne beat Brisbane in the GF

Devil in the detail: Tassie ups AFL bid with plans for $750m new stadium

Devil in the detail: Tassie ups AFL bid with plans for $750m new stadium

It’s approaching crunch time in Tasmania’s bid for the AFL’s 19th club licence, and a new state-of-the-art stadium in Hobart may be enough to win the vote.

That's a pretty impressive stadium concept for a city with a population half that of Christchurch, and a state with a very well spread population of a little over half a million.

On another note, the Sky guide has finally updated and now I can see they're showing the season opener on Wednesday, yay.

have to say, i woke up this morning, and was actually excited for the game tonight, two teams who i do not care about, but both play good footy.

Unsure about opening the season with a GF rematch, seems like that is a waste of a "blockbuster". But I'll take anything over being forced to watch Richmond pound Carlton

you forget AFL is exponentially more popular than pretty much any sport in NZ so they can base it off actual demand rather than general population 😉
