Hawke's Bay Club Rugby 2022

@Stargazer I might have to concede defeat as the sock hoops in both photos look to be the same size and colour. The could be another explanation in that he pinched them from McClutchie's gear bag after forgetting to bring of his own pair. There was a couple of players that had socks that I did not recognise, think one of them might have been Lolani Visinia, but if not the socks were some sort of black and white hoops.

@Higgins No socks stolen. Below is the best evidence yet. An instagram post from Tamaea, reposted by Enari with a club day comment, which was then reposted by Tamatea with "kei a mΔtou te whiwhi" underneath.
Lolagi Visinia was wearing his Clive socks (blue/yellow), just like Josh Kaifa.

Too early for me to start a 2023 club rugby thread, so posting it here.
This was posted on the Tamatea FB page:
PANUI WERA
It's official!
Tamatea retains Premier status for 2023 HB Club Rugby season.
Tamatea finished last on the Maddison Trophy table, due to points deduction for playing an unregistered player. Normally, that would mean relegation to the Town/Country division for round 1 of 2023 club rugby.
The winner of the Division 1 Final is entitled to promotion, unless they already have a team in the Premiers division. In that case, the loser of the Final is next in line. MAC won the Division 1 Final, but already have a Premiers team. The loser, Porangahau, have not. I haven't been able to find information about whether Porangahau has decided itself to stay in Town/Country, whether the HBRU altered the promotion/relegation rules due to the Covid related changes to the club rugby format in 2022, or whether there is another reason for Porangahau not taking Tamatea's spot in the Premiers.

Looks like they are retaining an 11 team Nash Cup afterall. Sensible really when all teams last year were reasonably competitive despite a couple of big hidings here and there. Relegating a club when they are still doing ok at the first team level makes it so very difficult to get back up again if the relegated club suffers an exodus of their top team's players. Hopefully this will be a lesson for all clubs to redouble their efforts in recruiting a few more players to ensure players do not have to double shift on a Saturday.

Ahhh talk of the Meeanee Hotel (aka Plumpton Park Hotel to us oldies!) certainly brings back memories! They are big sponsors of the HB Rugby Referees Assn as well.
Oh @Stockcar86 just in case you missed it, kudos for extras being the equal top score in the second innings total of 78!

Awesome initiative! I hope they succeed in getting that tournament to Napier. I had never heard of it. It would be a long wait until 2029, but worth it.

Interesting to note that there were no LBWs awarded in the second innings, and it wouldn't have been for lack of appeals!
In case you missed it π
Incidentally not holding out too much hope for the Hawkeyes in Palm Nth tonight, but you just never know, all it takes is just one bit hit!
