hrs.premiers_ It’s been a rough few weeks for us here with some hard losses and boys out with injuries or bugs.
We’ve got a big job playing CHB down in Waipukarau tomorrow but it’ll be good to have this guy running out in our colours for the next couple of weeks 🔵⚪️🟢 -

The ultimate outcome of the Altherm Texans match against Havelock Nth was decided in the very first scrum of the match when the Tech pack won a penalty when the visitors loosehead collapsed somewhat meekly. From them on it was simply a matter of how much my guys would win by. Two converted tries within the first 20 minutes was a good indication of the Tech dominance and that it was just a matter of how much they would win by. Every scrum was further embarrassment for the visitors and they even had to resort to taking throw ins rather than scrums when ever the Texan hooker was ruled to have a not straight throw, and there were a good number of those. On the other side of the coin the previously good Tech lineout was awful, and that was describing it kindly.
much of the game was confined to within the domain of forward areas of expertise.
Having said that the Tech back did spread the ball wide on a decent number of occasions with Jayden Stock and Teddy Walters going well. The Tech first five, a little wee guy, certainly excited me whenever he was in possession, you just never knew what would happen. There were a number of completely unexpected moments, most of them came off.Havelock had the two Flanders brothers and former pusher for inclusion into the Wellington Lions Sam Smith who all played ok but were somewhat overshadowed by the overall dominance of the Tech forward pack. Aspiring HB halfback Isaac Bracewell had a bit of a nightmare for Havelock, getting "sacked" about four or five times which to me was personally disappointing as I have known the kid ever since he started playing senior club rugby in Wellington. At this stage I would not have any of Smith or Bracewell in the Magpies matchday 23, and even within the squad would be a bit of a surprise (unless Mr. Philpott was still involved). The Havelock backline line were never a threat to my guys with about three battering rams and a winger whose tackling stats were worse than Alan Hewsons making things easier than expected defensive wise. Having said that the home side was very good on both the defensive and aggressive defence phases.
All in all I am very pleased about the result even and the match itself though I expect the worst when I wake up in the morning, and I am not referring to the cricket score here! A flu bug swept through the Texans during the week and there were a number of decidedly looking flu ridden seedy players that I spotted after they had wormed up so they did really well to win as well as they did. Two more rounds left and my guys are still more than a win ahead of all the other runners. things are looking very good indeed.

The refereeing appointments for this week are already out and it shows Mr. Bredin continues his northward migration, all the way fom Dannevirke to Tamatea Park where Pirates and MAC will be under his control. If he has moved permanently to HB then we have refs with first class appointments available to be allocated to all Ray White Nash Cup games and must become the envy of most other provinces. Others on the whistle this week are Mark Johnston, Sheldon Eden-Whaitiri, Dan Waenga (CHB v Tech) and Nick Hogan. Thats a pretty impressuve list!
-
@Higgins Hopefully, Mr Bredin will start loving the Bay so much that he'll be on our side for once, if & when we play Taranaki. (Obviously, to play Taranaki, we'll have to reach the finals, because we don't play them during the round robin.)
-
@Stargazer On the other hand we could avoid him as that would breach the neutrality of referees protocol. And referring back to he Pukekura Park experience, next time we get Taranaki at least the field might be full size with full size in goal areas as well

@Stargazer Bethel has been rather starved out on the left wing these last few weeks as the play has been mostly confined to using the strong forward pack to snuff out any real chances the opposition might have. Luckily the weather has been reasonably warm so he did not freeze to death out there whilst sitting back and twiddling his thumbs admiring the big boys getting the job done. Expect to see a more wide ranging expansive gameplan tomorrow which will give a better indication of his current form.
This will be his brothers first appearance in a few weeks but can't let you know if he has ben injured or has had other commitments (I forgot to ask last Saturday night). I suppose his reappearance ruins any remote chance of a later than late call up for myself! -

Is that the correct photo for the No 4 in the combined Napier Old Boys-Marist team?
Interesting to note CHB have elected to give three HB Magpies players that have been missing pretty much the whole season to date starts today. Also Mason Kean in the number 16 jersey for Tamatea -

I'd like to know more about Havelock North's winger Epeli Tanadroga. Obviously Fijian, but does anyone have more info? He's a prolific try scorer, but that's about all I know haha. I'm sorry if I've asked this before, or if anyone has posted about him before. Just can't remember.

@Stargazer Havelock had two Fijian wingers when they played my mob last week. They only had one listed on their playing sheet as a starter so not sure which one was which. One couldn't tackle to save himself and neither of them had much chance to stretch their legs apart from one occasion where one of them was put into a semi gap and did make quite a bit of ground without looking overly threatening. To call them typical Finian wingers that we have come to expect in NZ would not be an accurate description as both were about average palangi build and did not show the magical footwork nor power running generally associated with Fijian wingers. It could have been that they were just having an off day (Tech hade plenty of control up front and Havelock were always chasing the game) but there was not much that shouted "pick me" about them.
