f we can survive to remain three down at stumps, I give us an outside chance of surviving tomorrow, but that is a big whopping "if"
holy shit sunshine and rainbows that's some level of optimism there!
yeah in a peverse justice sort of way I still have hope, given the fern has mercilessly mocked moon head junior and CDG on many occassions it would be fitting for most of us to be served humble pie.
although if we have to rely on Southee though to bat out one over though, we are dead already
I guess we are going to keep waiting for that maiden test series victory over SA
That 100% depends on @nzzp s boy Conway.
Pretty much that simple. The rest are guys to bad for a good time but not a long time
Conway doesn't often miss out twice. We are going to need serious contributions from Blundell and CdG at least
I have more faith in the former to get set and grind it out.
He's still living off that landmark innings on the aussie tour. Hasn't been as good since
What really sucks is the dread as a fan that we’re essentially potentially half a session away from a crushing defeat if things turn to shit early.
I haven’t had this feeling about the Black Caps in years. Not nice
Yes you have. Game one of the Bangles series.....
With the amount of NY boozing I was doing I just assumed that never happened….
But yeah, as someone on here mentioned the inconsistency is staggering. We COULD NOT have fucked them up more in the first test….and look what’s happening now ???
Goes to show what an achievement the test championship was. We won't be able to maintain that level of consistency this cycle
Absolutely. Losing Rossco and KW and some other players showing more indifferent form than they should will probably ensure that.
Without those two our batting lineup isn’t a hell of a lot better than SA’s ( given Conway just hasn’t played enough to judge just yet )
Conway may have only played 6 or 7 tests, but has already scored 3 hundreds, one of them a double hundred, so of course you can judge how good he is, the bloke has class written all over him, again he's showing excellent composure in this test.
So far yes and you’re probably right but the pessimist in me still worries he’s another Matthew Sinclair.
England in England isn't the West Indies on debut.
Plus, he was an absolute run machine at domestic level. Someone must have the comparable records of the two to compare
Sinclair had a first class batting average of 48.64 so it’s fair to say he underachieved a bit after an amazing start.
It's a big step up to test level though... that's where you find out whether a batsman has the mental toughness or not.
Definitely, and I certainly hope you’re right about Conway given how much we need him to be amazing.
It would be a superb effort by Conway & Blundell if they played a major part in getting us through to a draw... the percentage is very low that we will get there, but still a chance.

This will be over by lunch.
I at least want to see us go down fighting, make them really work for it, not throw away their bloody wickets like the other batsmen in this innings.

Yeah. Our 8 through to 11 are afraid of getting in line to short balls. No chance a draw even if current partnership batted half the day.
When getting out of the way of short balls I prefer the method of standing tall & swaying out the way compared to ducking where players tend to take their eye off the ball so get hit a fair bit... with the height Jamieson has he'd be better to be upright & sway out the way, when he ducks down he looks so bloody awkward & gets into all sorts of trouble.

Interesting challenge for these guys. It's not very often that you get told 'hey, you can bat all day if you

Can we please lock this thread before someone puts the mockers on?
We are dead set gonna lose
Of course, there is no way we will even get to lunch, let alone last all day

Half a dozen pieces of good cricket and we are done. Done.

Conway misses a full one and that's game over

Even our reverse jinx attempts can't save us. Blame is squarely on the openers

Time for some cult hero heroics

Jeez that Conway one looked like it was swinging down leg. I thought it might have been 'umpire's call' but 'hitting'?

I don't think it was going that far. Good call from the umpire. They have had a good game from what I've seen.
So, where are we now in the miracle stakes? Only need 150 from CDG, and a lazy 100 from Southee, and we're home.

Probably need these two to be there at tea. 140 to get in the final session with 5 down sounds like the game plan.
Jamieson is due a few runs frankly or he might be looking over his shoulder.

too soon!
Blundell out - just doesn't execut a pull.
Time for CDG and Southee to work their magic. Come on the hitting!

I think time for a change of strategy. Let's knock off the bulk of the runs this session and leave 80-90 for the final session.
Quick 120 from CDG and support from the rest and the path to victory is clear.
