Zverev told the crowd off for booing Djoker
I'm surprised Zverev didn't try to assault the women in the crowd
Funny how the crowd and media can hate on Djoker coz he's a weird guy with odd opinions, yet they support a drug cheat and a wife beater
Djok is hated on for more than his opinions.
I appreciate him as a player, and I do realise he can do cuntish things. Even the hugely beloved Rafa Nadal did stuff, and became more sanctimonious near the end, lecturing players on court sometimes about their conduct, which was BS
I was more referencing his carry on in Australia during Covid. There's probably a section of the crowd who still see him as one of @barbarian's wished for villiains.

Aaron Rodgers was similar in that regard. That will always influence the way many people will feel about them.
There's also the suspicion that he fakes injuries. Perhaps, or as others do he manipulates the rules to his advantage. Funny that he gets pilloried for faking injury vs Alcaraz, them gets pilloried for giving up due to injury after being down a set vs Zverev. I know he brings some of this on himself, but the bastard can't win.
In the limited interaction I've seen with his fellow pros, most seem to like him and find him supportive

Perfect storm. Melbourne Open. Player who refused to confirm his vax status. City with worst lockdown outside of China.

Novak pulls out injured and crowd boos.. that's pretty low from Melbourne
To be expected from Victorians.

Those tickets aren't cheap. I'd be pretty pissed off too if I all I got was one set.
It's a shame Djok didn't do this in the quarter - Alcaraz would have been fun to watch

Agree to disagree. You don't have to pay. If I paid I'd accept the vagaries of sport.
I think it is overpriced so I don't go. If I paid I'd protest to the organization not to the players.
And yes I think the prizes are distorted to the top 10. But the players as far as I know don't set them. -

Someone recently won a round in a GS then pulled out and didn't even start the next match. It was Rafa wasn't it? CF Sr went to an AO final years ago and Stefan Edberg pulled out after a set or two. That's the risk.. I do think there should be a lucky loser rule if the player can't start the match

What a quality match. Both ladies played awesome, Keys got it done deep in the third. Her first GS title 8 years after her last final. Took out the world # 10, 5, 2 and 1 players in the world. All this after changing her racquet brand and retooling her serve last month. What a Cinderella story

29 years old, first GS final in about 8 years, beat world #2 and #1, a Keys win would be an amazing story. She looks very calm
No one can say Keys didn't deserve it after beating the two favourites.
She beat the #10, 5, 2 and 1 on her way to the title. Apparently no woman has beaten the 1 and 2 seeds in a GS since Jana Novotna (?) in like 2007. I'm happy for her, this might have been her last chance to win one, sounds like she suffered many therapy sessions to undo all the scar tissue from her last finals loss. Sabalenka will be back

I haven't seen all of Zverev's games but that's because apart from his serve I just don't enjoy watching him play. Sinner though, is a far more complete player even if he looks like a stretched matchstick.
-
For me, Zverev is too conservative. He stands too deep, doesn't hit as flat hard or as deep as Sinner. IMHO Shelton worried Sinner more, but suffered from a lack of discipline.
He needs to.take a leaf out of Madison Keys' book, make some serious changes to improve the weaker parts of his game
