Blues vs. Highlanders

YEah I think it was Daffy, I had heard he was highly rated but struggled with fitness (weight) and injuries last season.

-

Anything has to be an upgrade on Sam Prattley. Good luck to him.

Really looking forward to this game, and to the rarefied air of the Soup season in general - have taken Friday off to watch.

Better than the stodge served up by the likes of the NH comps - 6 nations/European Cup/Top 14 and the godawful pro 12.

Wales has been good - but the 8 nations draw hinders their progress.

Will be good to see free-spirited, creative open running rugby for a change.
-

1 Blues 1.92

2 Highlanders 1.82

1 Blues 13 & Over 5.25

2 Blues 12 & Under 2.85

3 Draw 18.00

4 Highlanders 12 & Under 2.75

5 Highlanders 13 & Over 4.75
-

Don't get your hopes too high in the early stages. Some of the first rounds can produce messy crap and I am apprehensive as to the rule changes until teams get used to them.

But generally, yeah I'm ready to watch some good rugby.
-

Sorry, please remind me, which rule changes are you talking about? I'm only aware of a trial of rule changes in the Mitre10 Cup, not Super Rugby (apart from the bonus points). Did I miss something?
-

If we can keep this game close for the first half, we might have a chance with that bench.

Hopefully Tana can get the best out of our young outside backs. Most of the outside backs at Counties have performed really well under him over the years.

Really looking forward to seeing how our defense holds up this season with Alistair Rogers as our defense coach. Our defense in pre-season was quite promising.
-

1 Blues 1.92
2 Highlanders 1.82

Whoops I picked the Blues for my multi thinking that Ranger and the Ioane brothers would be too much for the Highlanders to handle. Now none of them have made the starting line-up. Sigh

Other picks are: Waratahs win
Sharks to beat point start.
Lions to beat point start.

But on reflection I probably should have only picked the Lions for a win, picked the Jaguares to beat the Cheetahs, left out the Blues v Highlanders game and then maybe one of the following:
Chiefs to beat Crusaders?
Hurricanes beat the Brumbies
Stormers beat the Bulls (reasonably confident) -

Any idea what sort of crowd might be on the cards for this one?

Cracking day by all accounts, Blues with a bit of a positive vibe under a new regime and some class ABs in the Highlanders - I'd like to think at least 20k would be expected.
-

Medium sized, + NZZP and a dozen noisy season ticket holders. Seriously, should be a good walkup. Early season, new coach and we haven't lost yet. Unbeaten for another 5 hours baby!
-

if they are gonna get a good crowd, tonight is the night! Assume weather is mint down there too, plenty of ABs on show, defending champs, Tanas first Super hit out as coach.

Good chance for a pretty good crowd. We got 32k for SJK's first game as coach and we averaged out to 20k for that season.

I've got too much optimism for this game, I need to go watch some of our highlights from last year.

Hahaha I get that same feeling every year thinking things are going to be different. I'm usually let down after round 1 haha but hopefully things change one day......
-

Blues A beat Chiefs A in curtain raiser 42-7. Not sure who was in the sides. Marcel Renata scored 2 tries and Jordan Trainer got a try and kicked conversions for the Blues.

Good Northland stock....

Good wraps for the young fella, hopefully a big future.
