NZ v Australia Test #2
-

I am desperate to win this. That defeat last week knock the confidence out of me a bit. The past couple of years have been fabulous and I wasn't ready for this pumping.

It will be interesting on the bowling selection.

My biggest fear is that they have Williamsons number which is rather crushing!!
-

Didn't realize you'd been selected, well done. Are you replacing Anderson or Craig ?
-

Stadium of 4 mil bruv!I am a part of this team!! :)

-

We ( thanks Hooroo ) traditionally get better as test series progress. I just hope that better is not another word for "less shit" if the first test is anything to go by.

-

A first look at the pitch. But what will it look like on Sat morning?

-

It rained very heavily overnight, but expected to be a hot couple of days here, so I'd expect it to dry out a bit before then

-

Right, we've done more then enough analysis of Test #1, time to flush the dunny and move on.

Bracewell out, Rosco (still) out, Santner (still) out. Ouch.

So we're looking at:

Latham

Guppy

Kane

Nicholls

Baz

Anderson

BJ

Craig

Wagner/Henry

Southee

Boult

I do hope they take Henry, but will understand if they go for Wagner as he is more of a "3rd seamer" I.E. can truck in all day long with the old ball and hussle out wickets.

If hydro is to be believed then Baz should, statistically speaking, be odds on to win the toss after losing the first. Bowl first and try and get the upper hand. You have to against Aus, you let them get even a sniff of the upper hand and it's all over.

We gave Baz the ultimate send off from the ODI game. Now time to do the same in the test match arena.
-

A big fucken "ouch" for Taylor being out but does Santner really justify the same reaction just yet ? hardly an automatic selection......

-

Yeah, more Rosco +2 others = ouch.

Early days but I do think Santner adds a lot to the team.
-

Yep quite possibly, the last lanky looking awkward kid we selected who could spin it turned out pretty well.

All my statistical analysis breaks down if tosses aren't independent

If Santner was fit he would probably slot in at 6 and you can pick 4 fast bowlers.
-

Man looks like an very green deck even at this late stage. Hopefully it does dry out a bit over the next couple of days because I'm not sure we have the batting lineup (should we be sent in again) to deal with a greenish wicket.
-

Not sure I'm quite in the "we are a great shot at winning this!" brigade. Last 2 years we've pumped Sri Lanka (not IN SL tho), the Windies (who are terrible), but generally been reamed by the Aussies ( 4 loses & a draw), couldn't beat an England team in disaray & won a weird one in Pak thanks to a Baz special after getting thrashed in the first one... that hardly screams "we are killing it!".

And against the big guys its very much been Kane & Ross hit a ton it or we get thrashed.

But at least the groundsman is doing his job, a fast seamer, give Boult & Timmy a chance to win it. Pretty kmuch the model we saw in the day nighter. We can't beat Aussie on a 50/50 pitch, so our best hope is a seam friendly one that its a struggle to get past 250 on. It really does come down to the wicket. Unless its a VERY bowler friendly pitch its hard to see anything other than a repeat of the first one.

For that reason I'd lean towards Henry, ultimately we have to take 20 wickets.
-

It's going to be a typical warm windy Christchurch day today, so the pitch should dry out considerably.

Also tomorrow 29 degrees so can't see the green lasting too long
-

Slight bit of panic setting in. The game isn't appearing to select within Sky Go!!!

Anyone else have this issue?
-

Me too - was frantically refreshing Cricinfo and not finding it...
-

It's strange but one of the positive things about BMac's captaincy in ODIs is actually a weakness in test cricket.

The revolutionary thing about BMac in ODIs (and part of the reason that NZ made the final in CWC) was his refusal to stick to a formula with his bowlers. Bowling dangerous bowlers until they finished their 10 rather than switch to the weaker bowlers - once the opposition was struggling. See how many times a side has 5 down and the skipper switches to his weaker bowlers to use up their allocation, the batsmen get set and the previously dangerous bowlers get thrashed to all parts when they return.

In tests, BMac has shown a gambler's approach when he needs wickets - example is Stokes in the first test at Lords last year. Kept on trying to buy his wicket because he was going for his shots when the conservative strangle and probe of weaknesses would have yielded better results.
-

I'm sure someone on here was talking about Friday as the start of the next test - as it was in my head as well
-

Cricinfo has a few bugs at the moment, the player search function in particular. I guess that's the price you pay for sharing a site with a billion indian fanatics.

-

BMac has confirmed Henry is playing so it's between Craig and Wagner for the last bowling spot.

Surprise, surprise, BMac loses his last toss and NZ are batting.

And trudged back shortly after?
-
Trivia to distract from Guppy basically being dropped twice in 2 balls...

Baz is oldest in the team at 34, who is 2nd oldest? -
Fark it's doing plenty. The Aus bowling lineup has done well this series but they've had by far the best of the conditions. Southee, Boult and Henry must be incredibly frustrated to not be out there right now.
-

Bloody hell, Guptill.

-
Glad we won the toss and batted. Looks a flat deck. Ball's not doing much ...
