Cricket is a fucking funny game sometimes.

In the first test we cried that NZ batsmen didn't respect their wickets, weren't patient enough, played at too many balls they should have left.

Williamson, Latham and Nicholls obviously take note of this, and try and grind through a tough period. They play the classical, gritty innings that we were all craving in the first test, and all lose their wickets to decent balls and great catches on a seaming deck.

Then McCullum comes in and throws all of this out the window, swinging like a dunny door. Gets a few lucky edges, catch off a no-ball and he's away. Against all advice or technique, he has gone a long way to winning the game for the Black Caps.

Poor old Kane would be spewing.

.

Fastest hundred, most test sixes, now that's a true blue Baz way of signing off.

Amazing innings, and completely turned the game around. Outstanding partnership with Anderson.

Great knock, good catch. Don't think there's much point in the Aussies telling all and sundry it was a fair catch.

McCullum played that fantastic innings because that is the only way he can play. He could have been out 2nd ball or the ball before lunch or the no-ball. He wasn't out and he took advantage. If McCullum had tried to grind it wouldn't have worked because McCullum doesn't have a defensive game anymore. Williamson and Latham are both proper cricketers who should be aiming to build innings because they have the techniques to do it. If Kane went for a golden duck then McCullum comes out earlier when the ball is doing more and maybe gets a duck himself.

Lyon gets Anderson. I have to say it was bizarre that Smith never got Lyon to bowl to McCullum.

And what is it about Lyon that mesmerises our batsman??

Finally caught up on the second session. What a phenomenal innings from McCullum and as barbarian said his career in a nutshell.

Congrats to Baz on a tremendous individual achievement.

I'll take 300, 320 would be a bonus, but wouldn't be surprised at sub 300.

Southees batting is a bit like not contesting lineouts, I know there's a theory to it but there is a better way with a bit of thought and practice

Bit special watching that innings, can carry on doing what I was doing earlier now.

Am I allowed to say I don't mind this Aussie cricket team, without king fluffybunnies Haddin and Mitchell they seem to be a good normal sporting team, even Warner seems to have matured a bit. I don't mind Smith at all, and seem to have a few decent bowlers that don't need to be idiots ale Mitchell.

Statistics indicate one of the tail enders will get abut 30, the rest fuck all, that'll get them over 300. Easy.
