A sensational start by HB in this game. I thought that their loose forwards completely outplayed the Ta$man trio. Segner was anonymous in the 1st half.
I didn't think there was as much in the Tu'ungafasi/Dixon incident as Smith was trying to make us believe. A penalty was suffice and Hawke's Bay scored anyway. It did seem like there was a South African director in the Sky OBU when replays start being shown without any warning. Apikitoa got away with a no arms tackle to the legs later in the game which was equally as dangerous.
How is a no arms tackle to the legs as dangerous as to the shoulder/neck area?
I am referring to players diving at the shins of attacking players when defending their line. The refs are usually strict on those because they are potentially leg-breakers.
And especially if diving shoulder first at the knees. That can be a career ender.
Granted, but that seems to be standard practice when defending the line, and I can't remember seeing it penalised before.

@gt12 In Afeaki's situation it was BBBR's head that ended his career. Moli limped off so likely a calf/knee issue (again).
That stiff-legged hobble looked very much like calf or achilles.

@chris-b the aerial skills of Tavatavanawai are just freakish, really thought their would be a massive emphasis on this given the failure of some of the fellas running in Black over the last few weeks .

@steven-harris Yeah - he had a great game and has been good all season. Should have attracted some Super rugby interest (He was around the Crusaders squad last year - played a bit of pre-season stuff - and called up as injury cover by the Highlanders).
Parkinson at the lineout was probably the other notable feature for Ta$man.

I was slightly bemused when the Chequebooks started throwing to other areas of the lineout as they were guaranteed ball when they threw it to him.
Where did Tavatavanawai come from? Aside from Fiji (I assume) of course. Did he come over for school?

Kinda reluctant to ask this, and a strange question maybe, and NZers wouldn't have seen it because Sky went to ads, but after the game a bunch of HB guys (including Visinia) knelt and prayed in a circle.

But while they were doing that another bunch of guys from both teams (including Flanders and the HB 9) did the same thing.
Don't want to start an anti-religion debate (anyone grumbling about Sky Fairies gets deleted) but found that a little odd they didn't all join in together.
I assumed they're varying flavours of Christian (got visions of Protestants and Catholics but they didn't look Northern Irish), but maybe Christian and Muslim? Are the Tu'ungafasi's related?
Just interested in why the separate groups.
Could it simply have been they just went into groups not knowing the other had started?

Not really. Right next to each other. One may have started and then the others followed, but I'd have thought the second group, which was 2m away from the first, would have joined the others. Almost not really worth getting me asking about but it just looked odd to me, and made me curious.

My lack of contribution to this thread has simply been because I wanted to be seen as a gracious winner and did not want to be seen to be condescending toward the defeated team. I am yet to get even close to those marks so will leave it at that!!!!! The hangover and recovery time would have won the gold medal at the Olympic Games.
