I wonder who the mole is?

JRFU believes University Competition and Top League provide enough depth as plans are made to join Nations Championship via SANZAAR
Based on 'plans' to join the Nations Championship?
Well I guess that gives us all a good indication of the status of those plans then.

Given that the Sunwolves have not had the support of the Top League or the JRFU negotiating for the very players to appear in Super Rugby, this was probably inevitable. It will make Super rugby better, but will slow down Japan's development. They are silly for not taking better advantage of the opportunity. Hopefully it will lead to some development of the Top League (which to be fair, is getting better).

@Stargazer All good prospects but in Blackwells case I hope they don't see him as a long term lock option.
If they (Fidow & Numia) stay fit, Wellington/Canes could finally have two high calibre Props on their roster.

I saw this in a stuff article:
The Rebels may still be in a daze after the Lions ran them down in such bizarre circumstances in Jo'burg last weekend. Ahead 33-5 early in the second half, the Rebels lost 36-33. The penalty count? 20-1 in favour of the Lions. Referee Egon Seconds absolutely caned the Ockers.
Seconds won't have the whistle this weekend. He will instead be running the line in Brisbane, where the Reds will host the Brumbies.
I skimmed through the game but had no idea the penalty count was that one sided. That must be a record

Have been reading a few whiney Aussie articles about the SANZAAR decision to pull the Sunwolves, in which they - again - ask for ditching Super Rugby (read: South Africa) and play a Trans- Ta$man competition that would include one or two Japanese teams and maybe a few PI teams.
They apparently don't realise that Aussie teams will have to improve a lot first for this idea to be remotely interesting? And who really is keen to watch these Japanese teams play (and would they include Japanese players)?
Not sure anyone would like me to post a link to an article on the Roar website ...
-
@Stargazer The other issue is they always want New Zealand players playing for Australian sides to make them competitive.
The vituperation I've had directed at me by Wallabies fans over the years leads me to believe Australian rugby has an awful lot of arseholes oblivious to the amount of support New Zealand has supplied to keep the game alive in Australia.

@antipodean and there is Fern's word of the day
Would test rugby mean more if nations went back to only playing their domestic rugby inside their own borders?

well, you know, maybe not. Super rugby keeps shrinking. The Aussies and the saffers aren't exactly enamored with it. Maybe we can fuck it off an play a year-round home-and-away NPC? Sell the media rights independently? The NRL's TV deal is worth 40% more than the NZRU's total income for a year.

From what I gather, the majority of the SANZAAR broadcasting deal is tied up in TRN. Whoever the winning bidder is they will want content to replace Super rugby. I suppose the partners could negotiate to have 3 individual domestic comps (the jaguares join Oz) then a sort of champions league thing at the end of the season? I guess it's almost what we have with the conferences now.....

@mariner4life npc with abs back would add to its value...guess it depends how much cash we can get from this world league if we can ditch souper
