Well number five in the batting order will be vacant soon
-

I am unbelievably sour about this game.

These <strike>three</strike> two home tests have been something I've really looked forward to as a Summer Highlight since they were first announced, and in the first ten overs on Friday it all fell to bits.

Bah and Humbug.

Bring back Taylor and Santer (make the physios work triple time), and tell Dimitri where the nearest short pier for long walks is.
-

its all good, we just need a double double from Nicholls and Watling and we're back in this!

-

yeah Australia have had the luck but they have also shown great application and just look like they want to win this more.

It seems to me they are all just about the win whereas NZ like the WC final might be a bit about the occassion (playing Oz and McCullum's last hurrah)
-

Lyon is bloody effective isn't he. Makes the most of his ability. He's exactly what we wish Craig was - very accurate and if the batsmen makes any mistake he is business.

-

Most of our batting success has been built around Williamson, Taylor, McCullum and Watling. Taylor is injured, McCullum has fallen off a cliff, Williamson and Watling it appears were just having purple patches that you often see in batsmans careers before falling back to the pack.

Anyway team for next test. Drop Anderson and Craig. Since Williamson isn't doing much batting he can do the spin bowling. You would be better with a specialist bowler and a specialist batter than Anderson.

1. Guptill

2. Latham

3. Williamson

4. Taylor

5. McCullum

6. Nichols

7. Watling

8. Bracewell

9. Henry

10. Southee

11. Boult
-

I disagree that Williamson was just going through a purple patch and will now drop back into the pack. He is pure class. We can't expect him to average 90+ every year, but he will end up with a career average of 50+.

I agree that we need a better batsmen then Anderson at 6 though. Hopefully Santner can step up in that role in the future, which would allow us to take 4 seamers.
-

This is all so very fucking disappointing isn't it?

This is even worse than Brisbane. We're getting spanked like it's the early 2000s again. This wasn't supposed to happen.

Shit batting brought about by poor technique and poor application. And a bowling attack taken apart. This is as one-sided as test cricket gets.

Fuck cricket.
-

Yeah strange post tubby, bit early to hang KW out to dry I think. For starters he still has two innings left this summer although I agree he could look at doing a bit more bowling. It's not like a bowler who has been going for a couple of days says "naaa mate I'm too fucked to bat"

I'd happily have him as our spinner when I have a look at the alternatives.
-

Tough crowd!
-

Jeez you can't do anything but praise Sir Kane.

Sure he is our best batsman but he hasn't batted well in two tests in a row VS Aus now. Not hanging him out to dry just saying some of the praise was reaching Richie McCaw or Richard Hadlee level at 25 when it is still early days.
-

The criticism was valid but he had 2 outstanding years culminating in gaining number 1 in the world status - if you want to call that a purple patch, you really need to wait for a longer slump ....
-

Tests: 85 innings, 13 hundreds at an average of 49.93.

ODIs: 87 innings, 7 hundreds at an average of 47.00

We are well beyond "he's an average player that just had a purple patch" and into "he is one of NZs best ever batsmen.
