Northland Talent

@kev the 12, Rogers that played for Waikato last night is from Hokianga, are several in the Auckland set up.
While getting these guy back would help, still need to sort out what other aspects of our union seem to stop alot of these guys coming back (I suspect some historical bias of us being very poor and inconsistent would see people choosing other provinces)
Hopefully the HP facility will be the first step toward attracting more talent, and not just returning locals.

@taniwharugby yep there is more than one factor at play.

Congratulations to all the Northland boys who have made the Blues under 20s including the boys that are in the Auckland squad with Northland affiliations ..

@steven-harris Lucas Payne also got on the park for Western Sharks prem side too, Kobe Walters (I used to go to school with his dad, and TR Jnr is good mates with his sister) started the season off the bench for Kamo Reserves, but ended starting most games for the Prems in the back end of the season (initially due to injuries)

@cgrant no relation from i believe,i found this information ,talented sportsman

The current coaches are simply not good enough to get the best out of young guys like this.
If they're not in a super rugby setup i'd reccomend them not to come back.
This is clear looking at how northlands next cabs have performed ie 2019 with a few injuries (terrible) and this year so far just missing a Sam a few times and Tom.
-
@muddyriver do you think some of these players are struggling with the step up from Club to NPC ..?, I totally get the loyalty piece which rewards club form but at the end of the day they have got to perform .
-
@steven-harris I do, and i believe that is because of the lack of development.
This year is a bit bizarre with selections (waipu came near last) but still the guys just do not seem up to standard. This covid break has been a huge blessing as i think it brings everyone down a level.
I have heard that trainings have felt like club rugby trainings.

@muddyriver yeah I think it was pretty clear last year this coaching team left alot to be desired, and this year has emphasised it, then there is the selection of players who have shown they are not up to this level over and over.
I think there are big gaps in other areas of Northland development too, I've said before, if my son was in the position to choose, I'd be reluctantly guiding him to another province (probably Auckland or Canterbury) to further his career.
