@nepia And who is the most capped HB player from the Canes? Hewitt?
ALB is only 6 games away from 100.
I don't think he was Magpie when at the Canes so doesn't count. Karl Lowe maybe?
Some of the other HB boys might know.
-
@nepia Cory Jane was a Magpie for a brief period but hat does that was only for a season so that counts him out. I suppose someone like Karl Lowe @ 41 games would be up there. Bryn Evans had 25 games but was outscored by Gareth Evans with 34 appearances however they were al headed of by Mark Abbots' total of 45, the same number incidentally that he wracked up for the Magpies. Zac Guildford (18) and Jarrod Cunningham (12) probably lead the backs tally for Magpies. Sadly The Barracuda managed just 3 games before he departed for the Highlanders.
Others that should have had more were Ash Dixon (15), Orcades Crawford (8), Gordon Falcon and Jonah Lowe bot with just 4 -
@nepia Now have to get round to disappointing you by proclaiming Chris Eaton with 27 games as the leading Magpie back at the Hurricanes (unless I can remember someone else) at this stage. I tried to surpress that but for the sake of accuracy must include it, the same for Mike Coman's 1! Also forgot about Hika Elliot's ten Hurricanes games, that's almost unforgivable, almost as bad as the Hurricanes website showing Devan Flanders still to make his debut when if they looked a bit closer they would find he would be up around the 25 game mark by now.

Haha, the Canes don't snap up Fakatava or Weber but give Eaton more than 25 matches. Dribbling idiots.
Apologies for the thread diversion my fellow Chiefs fans.

@canes4life Roigard is in that age bracket between Roe and Ratima so there wouldn't have been a place for him anyway.
Ah Kuoi and Thompson have gone the other way.

@tim I take it you didn’t watch him last year? He was very sound for the Canes by the end of the season. Can jump into 10 aswell which proved handy on a few occasions.
I remember being at the Canes vs Reds game last year and was very impressed. Reminds me of a young TJ Perenara, similar in stature with a better pass and a cooler head.
Him and Love are only 21 but that combo is the future for the Canes IMO.

@nepia we have snapped up the classy Cam Roigard from under the noises of the Chiefs. Shame he's injured this year because he was a gold nugget for the Canes in 2021.
Why would the Canes need Roigard when they have Fakatava in the region?
Cos they’re idiots!

BBBR is only 30, but is 7 years older than the next oldest Chiefs lock.

That's harsh canes, they probably thought it was better Fakatava played with Nugget Smith who was from their region too!!

A good story about the long wait McWhannell has had to make his Chiefs debut. Hopefully the injuries are behind him.
-
But then came a cruel twist of fate as he was eagerly awaiting a debut over the first half of the 2019 campaign.
“I guess just because of my age they didn’t want to throw me out there too early, which was frustrating at the time,” McWhannell said, “because they also weren’t letting me play club rugby, because I was like an injury away, they said.”
That injury then happened on the night of May 4, when Michael Allardice broke his ankle against the Highlanders in Dunedin. But, in a crushing coincidence, McWhannell, having eventually been released to play a few games for Hautapu, had suffered the exact same injury earlier that day. That's some unreal bad luck holy shit. Also didn't know he was on a 5 year contract.
