The match-fixing allegation were the subject of a libel case in an open court which he won. He was accused of perjury in the libel case, which was again tested in an open court, and he won that one too.
Not sure what else he could do to clear his name.
Nothing. But he’ll always be guilty in lots of peoples eyes because he has always been a polarising figure.
Yep. OJ Simpson innocent too.
Very different. Cairns fronted-up and sued for libel (and won). Simpson ran away, was sued for wrongful death and lost.
Don’t bother. @MajorRage has spoken. Cairns is irredeemably evil and deserves everything bad that comes his way.
Honestly, are you Chris Cairns?
I’ve not even offered an opinion on him/you yet.
And I’m not planning on it given his illnesses.
Na just a fan of his work.
I think you’ll have to learn to agree to disagree and accept comments which you think cross the line I’m afraid.
This easily the dumbest argument I’ve had on the fern.
That is quite the platitude you’ve earned there.
Grow up

Maybe. But people have done far worse things
Indeed….he’s not exactly a murderer or rapist…...and it wasn’t even proven he did it in the first place.
Bit of a dickhead comment @JK
I'm thinking not really. First thing that sprang to my mind. So maybe I'm a dickhead too (am not arguing).
But I do not wish ill on anyone.
It wasn't proven, but " balance of probabilities" for me.

Everyone on the fern is a bit of a dick it just depends to what degree.

@MN5 Cairns will always be a cricket legend but that saga will always stick with him. The whole thing might be murky enough for him to get away with it in a court of law but doesn't mean he didn't get up to some nasty stuff...and I'm not just talking about on the Field too

O J was found responsible in a civil case wasn't he? Or did he win that on appeal?
Personally I find it difficult to believe he could have been physically capable of murder after all those injuries in the Naked Gun movies. -

Wrongful death. Going by that article, the judgement is still in place. In terms of burden of proof, for the murder trial, it was reasonable doubt, and fell short. For the civil trial, it was preponderance of evidence, and that standard was met.
With Chris Cairns, no standard was met, including libel which is to the balance of probabilities, so his lawyers showed in court that it was more likely than not that he didn't fix matches.

Thank you, very succinct.

I think there were specific instructions to rely on two witnesses. McCullum, Vincent and Vincent's wife offered direct evidence they were induced to fix matches by Cairns.
Vincent and wife looked flaky. McCullum seemed pretty straightforward. However, the jury acquitted.
So, on the evidence available it may have been correct in law - but frankly, the accusations by McCullum and Vincent were pretty damning. Personally, I prefer their version to Cairns (who denies everything), but I'm a random keyboard warrior.
