2021 HB Tipping Team
-
KiwiPie has got the website up and running for the 2021 Teams NPC Tipping Competition. Each team can comprise of up to six tippers with the top five scores each week counting toward the total. That means if you have a stinker it won't effect the team's total (unless another tipper also craps out) but does count toward your individual total. When putting your tips in you must tip for every match in the round and generally must be done prior to the kick off of the first game of each round. All is not lost if you forget you can still come in and tip for the remaining matches but you get zero points for the missed games. Furthermore all is not lost if you forget to tip for the entire round as you get accredited with a score of six points less than the lowest scorer overall for that week. Small consolation I know but better than nothing.
A good start anyway with two already having got their tips entered. Welcome to newcomer @delicatessen who was the first to get their tips in, well done. Just checking in with @delicatessen to advise you have tipped Southland to win 9-16 away to Otago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1g12QtoPRHKwFnSIszuvU7hPWQshMDHFQJ17mVbY4QPI/edit#gid=1247571922 You can change that simply by resubmitting your tips prior to the kick off of the first game of the round. Virtual Life Member PAJ is also an early tipper so that leave us with another four required to front up with a full team.
Last year's lineup comprised of @Stargazer @stockcar86 @paj @higgins @propsicle @billsy but the latter suffered a season ending injury midway through. Hopefully we will scramble enough to make up a full team so don't be scared to put your name forward and tip as there are bound to be casualties along the way and we may need to bring in impact players from our bench. Can the likes of @Number-10 @Magpie_in_aus @Nepia @machpants or anyone with an alignment to the Ranfurly Shield holders think about coming in and donning the Black and White hooped tipping jersey? Even those based offshore should be able to devote more time to watching the Bunnings NPC given the lockdown situation confining people to their homes and be able to make inspired/informed selections!
Here is the link to the area you need to go to get your tips in
Finally there is no longer the compulsion to automatically take HB 17+

@Higgins I pretty much suck, but happy to pull on the boots for one more season for the Shield holders
-
@machpants My mate Wayne's World is the "Captain" of the usually all conquering Wairarapa- Bush Tipping team (think they won for about four years in a row until stumbling last season). Most of the rest of the team are mates of mine, one of whom played for the Bush when they won the last ever NPC Div Three final (v Horowhenua @ Memorial Park) under Peter Russell and Chris Luman's coaching. Tip for them if you want as I have not yet touched base with all their regulars to get them going again.

There is not a lot of good news to report this week. We managed to score the second highest team total for the round but alas we still got tipped over by the Counties-Waikato team 42 - 47. We were undone thanks to unprecedent form shown by opposition tippers Hooroo and Antipodean who come home in first and second place for the week, something that does not often happen! At least it is showing we are in reasonable early season form and we will need to be again this coming week as the always strong Wellington team are our opponents.
Anyway keep up with the training and come out firing once all variables for this week are known and get your tips in. Remember one bad week does not make for a bad season. Crap out one week but you could could top the scoresheet the next week, this round has already shown that can happen!!!!! Onward and upward guys. -
Righto I got my duty done for the week and expect we will either win easily (HB retaining the Shield) or lose big time (HB doing the unthinkable and losing the Shield) to the pesky BoP Tipping Team. Thankfully we are in third place on the [points table but it is still close run thing to making the play offs or not. We have a couple of tough fixtures remaining against the equally pesky Wairarapa-Bush mob and the well performed South Island Team remaining so wins this time of the competition are to be treasured.
Tips in guys, a minimum of a home 1-7 in the4 second game of the week is the most palatable selection there!!!! https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submit Tips in by 1905hrs please.

Still in joyous celebration mode after smacking Ta$man last weekend and ensuring we increase our lead over the fourth most successful team in the history of the Ranfurly Shield by one more win!!!! Winning that game also meant we were never in danger of defeat in the Tipping Competition from then on, even though the BoP guys must have been so confident of knocking us off that they fronted up a couple of tippers short. We will have to be on guard this time out with that banana skin game down in Christchurch likely to have a big bearing on how we go against the well performed South Island mob who were running in second on the table until last week (a spot now held by ourselves no less!) and who are bound to take Canterbury en-masse in the tipping. Anyway tips in and good luck as we fight to defend our lofty position.
Tips in by 7.04pm tonight please https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submitGood luck guys!

Sorry team - I picked Canterbury to try and help our overall points in case the unthinkable happened. Good job everyone else for getting us the win!
-
@stockcar86 You were not the only one, I spent a deal of time in the Confessional over my error on that one.

A pretty comprehensive victory in the last round robin match enabled us to hold onto second place on the points table, two points behind Wellington, who had the good fortune to sneak home over us by the solitary point in round two. As a reward we now come up against our old nemisis, Bush, in the semifinals. Historically they seem to have the wood over us for some reason or other but we did tip them over rather comprehensively a few weeks back (incidentally that reminds me one of their outfit is still owing me a six pack that was at stake in that encounter). Despite that they seem to be hitting peak form, illustrated by them being the first team this season to lower Wellington's colours last round.
Hopefully that will be too much of an effort to repeat again this week but let's take no chances and make sure you do plenty of pre-match preparation before submitting your tips.

Did mine this morning after panicking thinking I'd missed tipping. I've never done any pre-match prep tho, what's that supposed to involve?

Perfect. Breakfast of champions.

Another excellent result last week guys, finally kicking the Bush guys where it hurts! They did not lie down and let us walk all over them though and we had to be on top of our form to take the win in the fixture by 41 - 38. This week is the biggie for the season with the combined Counties-Waikato side in our line of fire after the pulled off a surprisingly big 38 - 30 win over the minor premiers Wellington.
Looks like the final will be played out over two weeks so we will need full concentration for both of those to ensure we come on ahead of them on total aggregate and finally get our name back on the trophy the seemed to have a permanent home in the HB trophy cabinet until about five or six seasons ago. Not helping is the Bay naming a number of bench players for the match against the 'Poo so the HB 17+ is not looking the certainty it did as little as seven days ago.
Anyway give your tips some thought and make sure you get in before the 7.04pm deadline tonight. Looks we still have half the team pondering over their tips, including Life Member PAJ who is making a late surge for the individual championship, so hopefully they will have all the information to consider on hand before finally pushing the send button of the Submit Form https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submit
Good luck guys!

Not such a good start guys with us being down five one after the first match. Looks like we might have to rely on a (cough cough) BoP win this afternoon as we have gone for the 1 - 8 compared to Counties' four two split in favour of BoP. Naturally we are six nil for the HB v 'Poo match (Counties have it four two) and it's four two in favour of Southland compared to three three. Hopefully it won't come down to the highest/lowest categories but looks like we have our work cut out to be ahead at halftime of this encounter.
Still over eight hours to go until kick off tonight, how does an old timer like me find something to fill in the time until then!
