Committing to bring the teams back by early march means that they'll be bringing the teams back at the predicted peak. I guess they're hoping that the rules will be they can RAT to carry on, like essential workers in phase 3 (or whatever shits hit the fan level is called). So a pre season and 3(?) comp games?

@machpants yeah wont happen, the Blues are due to play up here on the 11th

Not so sure read on in the border release and after April 12th sports teams don't need to isolate if I reading right!
From 11.59pm on April 12 anyone with a visa could skip MIQ.
Also allowed in will be 5000 overseas students eligible to study in semester two.
The Government will also look to expand the amount of skilled workers coming in – to include season workers and some critical workers who wouldn't meet the income test mentioned above.
Professional sports players and cultural performers and their support staff could also come in.
They would have to be performing in events with “significant national/regional benefits”

I thought I read it as you still have to home isolate for 7 days on entry ?

I still not sure, but if says they skip MIQ, nothing about home isolation which isn't really possible if they not residents of country.

And to add to that, I see that from July everyone from visa waving countries like USA, UK, Aus don't have to MIQ, so I take it that means no home isolation. Must be vaxxed etc of course, but seem it all go.

Home isolation, means a hotel room or air BnB if you're a visitor. It just means no MIQ, self quarantine would be a more correct term. As stated in the press brief, on a flight you're almost certain to have at least one covid case on board. Therefore you are basically following close contact isolation rules, 10 days now, 7 days later, and less if you are essential workers with RAT in worst case Omicron scenarios

New Zealand Rugby has scrapped plans to play Super Rugby night games in Invercargill, shifting the games to Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium. Friday and Saturday night games for the first three rounds of the competition were to be played at Rugby Park. However, after further conversations between the teams and NZR, it was agreed the facilities at Forysth Barr, including the roof, made it the team’s favoured option for night matches.

Regarding isolation, see below. I would suggest by April there will still be some form of isolation.
But once New Zealand reaches its new phase of dealing with Omicron – something that is supposed to happen once the outbreak gets a bit larger – then that will be reduced to seven days, as it will be for close contacts. But self-isolation isn’t expected to last forever – Ardern signalled that the Government will be looking to phase it out eventually, which would make more regular tourism possible.

Yep kiwi, I just listening to news, seems they still have to isolate, Grant Robertson just saying that teams will be able to train etc, not anything like it used to be.
