Used to love having to get word of the day into mission briefs!
tangent: Despite yelling 'fuck yeah' in their briefs, the yanks had very funny PC rules about what words they could use. For ex 'craniums up' cos you can't say head - it probably goes back to their toilet/restroom phobia. Good value watching the cringe in your briefing 'Alright, today we will be penetrating the box at 0600..."
-
@daffy-jaffy he did that well, actually. Well played RTS
-
@machpants don't think it's an issue.
His step is very late and he stays square, perfect for close quarters stuff.
I think his ball carrying will be so good that he will be able to rely on it until he gets the hang of playing 12. Much like sonny who I would say never actually developed the latter to an elite level.
-
@muddyriver having that great footwork can buy him some time as well, a skill I can only dream about , mine was tuck the ball under one arm and run into contact ..bit of Ngapuhi thing π€¦π»
-
@steven-harris would be awesome if he kicked from 12 as well. Been a long time since we had a kicking 12 that wasn't a converted 10.
SBW did a few from memory, struggling to think if others do it much
-
I think RTS looks to be a hugely talented player, with smarts, I think (and hope obviously) his transition is going to be much smoother than most expect, such a rare talent, I think he will surprise a fair few, particularly on attack
I think he might get shown up on d a few times, but expect he will learn quickly there too.
@nzzp Nonu developed a good kicking game.

Rieko and BB running off this guy is going to pretty great. Bet they can't wait.

... and passing game, and stepping game, and tackling game. Turned into a complete player.
I guess I was just thinking I don't see many 12s used as frequent kickers - would be nice if that happened; dual playmakers, and possibly even some territory

Isn't there a conflict of interest with Tana's nephews?
Nah, one's always injured and the other one can't get selected by his Super coach.

I think these days with how everyone moves in and out often the 2nd kicker (dual playmaker ) plays at 15 since we drifted off the 2nd five and moved to inside centre role. Plummer plays the old 2nd 5 role for Blues quite a bit

Thinking back, one of the hallmarks of the NPC winning Auckland 2018 side was their kicking from all over the backline. It just makes sense - you can catch out positional issues from the opposition (and actually create some!)

Also, the Blues turned the corner last year when their kicking game improved. Sullivan & Christie became regulars and supported Black. MacDonald said the game plan in the final was largely built around Christies kicking

Going by that article posted about Clarke and RTS training together there was mention on working his passing game.
Passing in play is different between the codes and used more often in Union. -
