@steven-harris Also a strong season at lock might push Robinsons chances of AB squad selection down the line. There is no genuine lock/6 around the AB's right now so he could be valuable in a smaller world cup squad.

I really hope he sees some time there as I think your analysis is bang on. Essentially, if the boy can push in scrums, he's invaluable to an AB team at a WC.

I actually do like the idea of Tom Robinson used as lock .
Yeah it might work very well. It all depends on the scrum, the rest of his skills should translate well.
We haven’t seen enough of it at SR level to judge yet (1 start at lock in 3 years)
If this is likely to happen next year I hope there is some co-ordination between the Blues and Northland. Get him some time at lock during the NPC

I think it's a similar case to David Havilli, where his way was blocked in the ABs at fullback by up to four other players, swapped to a position they were light in and now he's golden.
Robinson can do the same thing, especially considering we have had very few players that were true lock/blindsides and they seem to like them. Would also mean we would never have to play Barrett at six ever again.

Don’t know if Ben Née Née and Sam Slade are already contracted, but thought both played well for Samoa recently.

it's pretty poor squad management if they lose Pierce. He's basically a ready made replacement for Patty T game style wise and has shown in his Super chances he can seriously foot it at this level.
He seems to have all the attributes to be a very good Super Rugby player, it's strange why he didn't get more starts especially in the SRA when Patrick was injured. Off field/attitude issues?
Good to see Patrick has signed to 2025, first AB to sign for that long. You could argue he was the difference between the Blues success in SRA to SRTT. He's a big hole to fill.

@tim I hope that Corey Evans will step up to take Faiane's spot. Have no clue about Locks. I would look seriously at Cridge if he stays fit this NPC. There was talk that they were looking overseas for an experienced lock. Also Dalzell trained with them this year so could get a gig if he impresses for Auckland. I really hope Pierce stays around. He deserves a chance at cracking the 23.

Any idea who might be available from foreign ranks?
-
@daffy-jaffy yea Evans woukd be good because if he makes the blues I reckon it increases the chance of him coming back to Northland 😁

Ask the Canes coaches, they are awesome at recruiting humungous overseas locks
