Otago 2021

@yeetyaah yeah, its interesting because he always played for taranaki, only played club when in dunners for the Highlanders....so why come down unless he was going to try and play for otago
i would feel a bit sorry for Freedom though he he did
-
@kiwiwomble I'm just keen to see a potential list assembled on paper. Seems like it could be pretty exciting and when you add in the likes of Naholo potentially, possibly on a similar level to the Highlanders' backs.
-
@shark The best we have at the moment is this list of players contracted for this year. http://www.orfu.co.nz/HIGH-PERFORMANCE/NPC/2021-Player-Profiles
I'd expect you can certainly add names like
Fabian Holland
Nathan Hastie
Sean Withy
Hisa Sasagi
Freedom Vahaakolo
Josh Timu
Giovanni Leituala
Levi EmeryLiam Squire is also potentially on his way back from injury and will need to play some building supplier rugby as well. So he could be a chance too. Adding him and Naholo will certainly add some star power.
-
@southernmann Liam Squire, maybe more chance he re-signs with Ta$man?

Aoina? , Fa’agase, Bower (ABs)
-
Coltman. Jackson, Bell
-
Ainsley, Ma’u, Hohneck (1 or 3), Sisagi

-
Elton, Misiloi, Withy
-
Lentjes, McDowell
-
Nel, Fischli, Lio-Willie
-
Hammington, Arscott, Hastie?
-
Ioane, Emery, Boyle ?
-

-

@stargazer Probably depends on whether he wants to leave Dunedin for the season. Staying down there allows him to be closer to his docs he's been working with as well.
I'd see Lentjes starting on the blindside. Like to give Withy an opportunity at seven.
Believe we will start Gilbert at fullback, he's played there for the Highlanders.
Faddes to be a bench player or centre. Although, I'd be keen to see Nu'u and TUJ pair up in the midfield.
Think Tomkinson might stay on the wing, like he did for the Highlanders.

@macmanus You can fix that by removing the dots after the numbers.
@macmanus quickly before @shark sees you have Gilbert at 13!
-
@kiwiwomble 🤣🤣
-
@kiwiwomble Not even ironically, it makes much, much more sense if you were to try that, to do it at NPC level.

...now im worried that you missed that although the last conversation was in the Highlanders thread...it was about otago...

Oh I can't remember. It does make sense if it was ever going to be looked at, to do so at NPC level. But all I was asking on that thread was why he should be.
-
Given that Vili Koroi has missed the Olympic squad, he will be available now for pretty much all of the building supplier championship.
Looks like he will compete with GIlbert for the fullback jersey and Ioane for the 10 spot. Probably the perfect player to wear the no 22 jersey. Chuck Faddes in the 23 and we have the backline covered. But, don't worry @Shark, Gilbert shouldn't have to play anywhere except for 14/15.
-
@southernmann good for us, feel for him thought, he gave up super rugby to make a play for it
-
@southernmann He won't be available to Otago soon. This is from the media release with the Olympic team naming:
Laidlaw also stressed the importance of the entire squad continuing to prepare for the games.
“We don’t usually name a team a month out from a tournament, and we’ve got some players that got dinged up a little bit in the weekend. All the players in our contracted group need to continue to prepare as if they are going to play and in all the conversations we’ve had, they certainly understand that,” said Laidlaw. -
@southernmann don't play Gilbert on the wing either, please
