that one....that one was deliberate

Does CGB play 10? Something in my memory suggests he does but maybe I am imagining that. If he does have some history at 10 I wouldn't mind seeing him get a run there given NZ's lack of quality depth in that position.
-
@Crazy-Horse hasn't done so at pro level, maybe at scots college he dabbled at first five idk

Stop stalling and just give us Havili

Stuff suggests a few names for the next Highlanders coach:
-
@Duluth So, regarding Ozich, Cully mentions him coaching Southland Boys and has totally missed Ozich coaching Hastings Boys to a Top 4 title?
Brad Mooar? I doubt his Crusaders connection would bother Highlanders fans if they were confident he could get the results they're longing for (like MacDonald did with the Blues, also with a Crusaders connection), but can they be that confident?
Are Otago fans actually happy with Donnelly's results over the past few years?
Chris Boyd sounds like a good option, but I'd rather have him back at the Canes.
-
@Stargazer in fairness, that sentence was mainly his connection to the south, southland boys<southland<highlanders, not a full resume
I'm happy enough with donnelly, he doesn't have an abundance of superstars and some of his big guns have had real injury issues

@Crazy-Horse credit to you mate you had an inkling that 1 of the landers regular outside backs would be looking for a go in the 10 Jersey, not CGB but it's close enough
-
@FakatavaFuture yeah didn't see that coming. Maybe Gilbert has history at 10?
-
@Crazy-Horse yeah for St Andrews college and Green island😅

Here's an even better solution.
They should've kept Josh McKay at the Highlanders and selected him at 10 since he was the Chch Boys High superstar playing in that very position?
-
@Asterik6 I mean it's all hindsight, if they had a crystal ball and knew Nehe, koroi and Alaimalo (varying circumstances) would play less than a handful of combined game in recent seasons they might've kept McKay maybe? all I know for sure is hunt is best served as an impact sub so hopefully Gilbert can have a fantastic foray in the 10 jersey

Nehe
I don't think you needed a crystal ball to realise that was a dud signing, before they even signed him. Heck if I could spot it, surely those in the know could?
-
I hope you don’t mind me asking, but are there any rumours about Falou Fakatava going to a Welsh region please?
-
Thanks for that it didn’t sound right when it was mentioned .
-
read that De Groot is on abs rest week for the Tahs game and Mitch hunt probably won't be in the 23, the good news is Denny Solomona is available & Shannon Frizell will be ready for quarter final time
-
This is quite nice.
-
@Smudge i love the stories of blokes just turning up and trying to play some rugby, reminds me of tanaka coming down to dunedin, no promises, just come and play and see how you go

love or hate him he's been a true stalwart and loyal servant
And yet we haven't yet invested in a quality young hooker.

We'll get one of the ones being blooded at the other franchises! Thomson or Vikena will turn up in a season or two I'm sure...
-
i actually thought ricky jackson looked much better in last years npc and henry bell looked very promising
-
@Stargazer you read it here first!
-
@Kiwiwomble they'll have high hopes for Jack Taylor as if I'm not mistaken he's on the same high performance program that has seen Ma'u, Withy & Holland complete
-
Next year Taylor will be in year two of his initial three year contract. He will be turning 20. Probably won't be filling the immediate hole. I think they will be aiming for these academy players to potentially make the step up in year three, if they are capable. Also bearing in mind the other two hookers are older as well. We might be needing a full set of hookers within the next couple of years. There has been a lack of forward planning regarding the hooking position.
-
@SouthernMann Ricky Jackson is not contracted for 2023… Henry Bell can be the 3 hooker next year, also Taylor. Southern boys

Ricky Jackson, Henry Bell and a young fella from Southland who hasn't played first class rugby doesn't inspire me.
-
It is strange that the Highlanders don't appear to have a succession plan at hooker, as Marshall (who replaced Jackson) is the youngest of the current three at 29.
Flynn Thomas was highly rated as an age-group player. I doubt you'll get Bell back from the Crusaders now.
-
@SouthernMann Ricky Jackson is playing with Crusaders. He’s first option for Otago. Makalio, Marshall and Ricky would be great for 2023.
