Highlanders 2022

I'll put this here. An article about Fabian Holland.
-
@bovidae He apparently didn't tell Cully about the All Blacks 7s training at his club in the Netherlands and teaching the local kids the haka (in 2014). In Dutch interviews he says that that's really inspired him, not watching the ABs when he was five. Or maybe Cully mixed a few things up?

Some more info about the Highlanders' squad in the article.
Result for the sharkies

The lads are getting all the talent.
Fabian Hollan plays for them as well.
Gareth Evans will be back there too.
I doubt they will be getting any Fakatava time though.
I'd say Faleafaga will go straight into the prem squad as well.
-
@southernmann dont forget Freedom
i wasn't sure if Evans would be back as he's only back for the Highlanders
-
Club season tends to run fairly parallel to the Super season. If he's available he will play. A bit like Brad Weber, with the Sharks almost being their top teams to play for. I think Bryn Evans has been assigned to them too.
-
@southernmann yeah, that what i was meaning, they run at the same time and i expect evans to on the bench quite a bit, don't think we brought him back down for nothing, so not sure he'll be available much
-
If Harmon wasn't injured I wouldn't see Gareth Evans playing a huge amount. With him injured, I think you need to play both him at Lentjes. It is just we also need to fit in Tu'u, Renton and Frizzell. Competition for places will certainly be stiff. Could have two loose forwards in the bench, but will then only have Banks as a back reserve.
-
well bugger!
-
Damn for PPP. Hopefully this opens the door for Parsons or Cridge to get a spot though
-
@kiwiwomble It's sad. He looks promising when he plays, but he's quite injury prone.
@Stockcar86 I second that; it's a pity that it may take an injury to another player to get Cridge or Parsons in a SR squad. At least one of them (probably Cridge because of Parsons' age) should be able to get a contract regardless.
I have also heard rumours about Highlanders' interest in Kereru-Symes, but I don't know whether there's any truth to it.
Also a rumour about interest from Queensland Reds in one of our players, but don't know who.

I think I agree with you about the age thing with Parsons. Highlanders already have Evans as the experienced/older lock. Parsons has always seemed to me like Buckman was - a guy you can trust to give it all and never let the side down. It might come down to the type of lock they want - Rangier (more a PPP replacement) then go with Parsons, more solid for additional scrum power - Cridge.
-
@stargazer has to be a blow to his chances of higher honors, really needed a few seasons on the trot injury free

@smudge The first response was "Well bugger" followed by "Damn for PPP".
You sure see the world in black and white. Unsurprisingly for a Magpies supporter.
Kiwiwomble made the initial post, including his thoughts. That's not the response.
But seriously you can't see how tedious this is? HB supporters roaming the Super Rugby team threads, sweating on injuries to squad members so they can put in a pitch for their pet players who don the hoops. It's distasteful.
-
@smudge All of us expressed our disappointment for PPP first, but his absence will have consequences for the Highlanders and obviously, we then look at who's available. Can't blame us Bay fans for naming some of the best NPC locks who seem to be without a contract still; not our fault that they happen to be from the Bay.
That's not distasteful; that's practical. Distasteful would be if we'd enjoy someone's injury, which is what no one on the Fern has expressed, as far as I know.

Our home team the Moana Pacific Magpies have gone a few days without naming any Bay players in their team, so we have to look elsewhere.
