So are we for the eyeties or the poms?
Italy have played the best football but I think I’m actually going to support the English here. Not least because Italy’s trophy cabinet is not what you’d call bare. Southgate seems like a jolly decent chap too.

Reckon any kiwis at Wembley tomorrow will feel like they’re back at the cake tin
“Harry Kane, Harry Kane”
I haven't got tickets for the game tomorrow but England's team hotel is round the corner from me.

@billy-tell If football does come home tomorrow it will owe a debt to a Kiwi called Owen Eastwood:

Why do you say that? I've been much more entertained watching England.

Just my opinion. But I make no claims to being an expert. I like their rapid counterattacking.

I might be a bit more of an expert I guess.
I like the way England kicky round thingy runny.

Phil Foden a doubt for tomorrow's big game. I think Southgate might start with Grealish, go for the early goal and hope the noisy crowd becomes the 12th man for England.
I feel there is a gaping home in this analysis. Neither have been in recent starting 11s, so who is dropping out of the 11 for Grealish?
-
@Rapido Foden was starting games at the beginning of the tournament. Grealish started against the Czech Republic and played a prominent role off the bench against Germany.
Finals are time for leaders. Henderson and Grealish (both club captains) in the starting line-up. Rice and Saka can sit on the bench.
Pickford, Shaw, Stones, Maguire, Walker, Phillips, Mount, Henderson, Sterling, Grealish, Kane

England in a 6-5 barn burner please

What a fucking beauty
-
what's the money on that being the only goal
-

I'm not a a huge football fan but normally follow England in the major tournaments. I haven't watched any games in the Euros and, surprise, surprise, England are in the finals.
I was at Cardiff in 2007 for the RWC Quarter Final against France so the Curse of the Meldrews exists and is real. Therefore I will not be watching the Final tonight in the hope England will win the thing....

I'm picking 4-1 England. 3-1 halftime.
Pretty happy with picking Shaw as *my" player early on in the tourney too.

-
Very early goal to Shaw. England 1 Italy 0. 23 minutes gone now.
-
@billy-tell I already had his poster up by then pal.

Like that Gareth Edwards try, it will be the clip shown 100,000 times.
-
Odd sort of game now. Italy seeing a lot of the ball, but creating very little and not testing the England defence terribly much. Their best chances have come from England errors.
Still 1-0.
-
Luke Shaw......lol @Billy-Tell
-
Italy started out of sorts but beginning to dominate possession.
-
Eight out from half time, Italy the better side at the moment. Score still 1-0.
-
-
Italy have shifted their formation to match England's. Seen more of the ball but not really threatened Pickford's goal.
-
FFS England
Don’t sit on the lead, run them ragged
-
Rice is having a great game
-
Half time.
-
Someone has to have a go from the edge of the box to draw the Italian defenders out
-
I find it hard to think my England can cling to a 1-0 lead with most of the game played in their half. Will be interesting to see southgates 2nd half tactics.

Haven’t looked like scoring
Looking a little more ominous though. England have to maintain their attacking footing, this could be a long half

Does football have rules about delaying tactics: 30s for a throw in, goalie taking forever etc?

Yes but they are quite generous to the team in possession.

Haha cluster fuck ticketing
Outside Wembley there were lots of people walking the wrong way down the slope to the stadium, something you would only do, surely, if you had no ticket. At one point they announced that a “ticketing issue” was stopping them getting people inside the stadium itself.
As I went to enter the ground, there were loads of lads hanging about, trying to persuade ticket holders to let them squeeze behind them through the turnstiles. Some were giving up but others were persisting.
The turnstiles themselves are unmanned: you scan your ticket. So it required the vigilance of the stewards about five yards back to see if this is happening. I made sure I went in alone but the person behind me allowed someone to try. This lad was spotted and the stewards were detaining him but clearly lots were getting through.
When it came to enter the block, the two stewards were not interested in seeing my ticket. I tried to show my ticket – really put an effort into it. The two stewards talked to each other and did not look at my phone, and others strolled past unchallenged. How can they eject people without tickets if there are no checks at the entrances to the blocks?
Friends I was meeting inside reported seeing police tearing after people on the concourse. Apparently there were lots of phone thefts. One of my friends has his 13-year-old son with him. Inside the stadium, the police were chasing someone and the boy managed to trip them up. The police thanked him for saving someone’s phone.
