think i was reading there no other serious bidders?

Argentina and Russia as far as I know

i hadn't heard about Argentina but the article i read mentioned Russia

"Russia is the only other country that has signalled their intention to bid for the 2027 tournament, but that bid will almost certainly not be considered eligible, given Russia have been forbidden from bidding for major sporting events until the end of 2022 by a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling"

imagine the size of the russian forward pack if they competed - all those drugs:

    Resurrecting this

Looks like USA are going to bid.
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/126744614/united-states-launches-bold-bids-for-mens-and-womens-rugby-world-cups

Sounds awesome - reckon a trip around there would be sensational. I'd make an effort - take in some NFL, NCAA and rugby, eat bbq and just see some sights.

Would be good to see every other world cup going to a developing rugby nation - Argentina, USA, Japan, etc.

Totally agree. Think a US-hosted RWC would be awesome.

I also didn't even make an 'Australia' joke about rugby nations. @NTA respect?

Remember Oz voting for Japan 2011 to ‘grow rugby’? Mwwahahahaha, that’s now some reall good leverage for NZ, as they have a very good relationship with USR

yeah, but how damn good would a US based tournament be?

the only downside is distance - it'd be like having a games in Iraq and Ireland as part of a tournament 😐

Australia similar for distance BUT only really Perth is taking the piss on that front.

TBH it would be great to go and see, but it is a bit more expensive to get to than a RWC here. 🙂

Hopefully the USA can pick themselves up and qualify for RWC2023 in the meantime.

USA would be great but personally I would prefer it go to Argentina who would also do an awesome job as hosts and are a genuine rugby nation. When I was in BA the day of a test the locals all knew what was going on - even if it is a football mad nation.

States - yeah / nah. Think rugby in Argentina deserves a boost and undoubtedly it would get one from hosting. In the US it's a very fringe sport. Like underwater hockey here

@booboo yeah, but the population live in a corridor on the east coast. Aside from deepest darkest Perth, of course. So for a fan it's short travelling distances

I do understand that, I live here, but even so they not exactly "short distances" in Aus.

(9 hours drive (give or take) between Syd and both Melb and Brisbane for example.)

Will be similar set up in the States prolly with most games in the East, a few in the mid-west and a couple in Californiyay.

Was mainly interested in the size comparison.

Well I guess if you like nice reds, beef, beef and more beef, mountain ranges, glaciers, and beautiful women, Argentina might be ok but Georgia has homemade mountain beer, honey beer, cheap beer, and they like tackling. Oh, and rugby is actually growing quite well there. And they're the oldest wine producers in the world (well, that could be misinterpreted):

@booboo A US RWC might involve games in Hawaii too.

My preference would be Argentina but a RWC in either USA or Oz would be great.

As long as it's not in Qatar. Who would be stupid enough to do that?.....

Georgia is awesome, and the wines are brilliant. Somewhat dodgy at times though.
