Cricket 2021: NZ in England and WTC Final

Timmy is on fire and he's surely good for three tests on the trot.

No Jamieson or Southee winds me up considerably. I don’t think we have THAT much depth to change the team this much.
Complete madness. It’s not like they’ve had a heap of cricket lately.
-
More changes than I think anyone expected.
Stead looks like he's determined to take his coaching career firmly into either inspired genius or guessing buffoon territory over the next fortnight.

Tim will be fit as fuck, would handle it piece of piss!

Never in my lifetime have I seen 5 changes outside our pretty much first XI and thought " not too bad, that'll do". Let alone been slightly excited at the chance for a second string spinner, keeper and emerging all rounder.
Strange times, in a good way.
Rossco, I know you've done a lot for NZ cricket and you're down the list on my preferred to quaff beers with, truth is I find you a little strange, but I wish you all the best in leading our batting in Birmingham. I'd delight in your foibles being a reflection of mine and will be forever impressed if you turn on a big one in the rehearsal for our biggest one ever. God's speed to you, you champion.
C'mon boys! We see what you guys are trying to build and how you've embraced all personnel and fostered a real sense of belonging and responsibility on all squad members. It's purely and wholly the right way forward - true progress, if you will.
A living, breathing example of unity and inclusion
Kia kaha boys - give it heaps and let the chips fall where they may!
Love youse all🙂

It’s still a test match for fucks sake. Show some respect Stead. Henry is such a step down in comparison
-
Too many negative nellies 😁
We're not England for fucks sake, hiding behind the apron strings of societal acceptance!😂

I'd rather hide behind Kyle Jamieson's bowling than Matt Henry's though...
(Anything to jinx Henry onto the Edgbaston honours list)
-
@donsteppa good jinx. Long game at play here mate, the first XI will be champing at the bit come Southampton time. A decade of professional cricket, training and playing more games every year than ever and you don't blame match practice for failing.
The boys left out ain't novices trying to find their game. Sound good?🙂
If not, Graham Henry's 3rd game in a row downturn...😉
-
Has anyone checked the trumpeter's tweets...?
-
@donsteppa dead rubber, nothing on it, poms showed us that last sunday😉

How sure are you that Kane doesn't have the final say in the team selections?
-
@mn5 said in Cricket 2021: NZ in England and WTC Final:
England are batting
Here’s our team….. New Zealand: 1 Tom Latham (captain), 2 Devon Conway, 3 Will Young, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 Tom Blundell (wk), 7 Daryl Mitchell, 8 Neil Wagner, 9 Matt Henry, 10 Ajaz Patel, 11 Trent Boult
No Jamieson or Southee winds me up considerably. I don’t think we have THAT much depth to change the team this much.
That is a pretty weak bowling attack

He’s about to get a whole lot of chances after the final though !
I admire the optimism, hopefully you’re right !

@mn5 yes,that's why he's second string...do try to keep up mate😉
Yeah sorry, I just saw who was missing and started frothing at the mouth a bit to be fair.

I wouldn’t quite go that far……”depleted” is a better word.

I switched over and saw who was in ...
... and lost the plot.
Relieved Boulty is playing at least.
-
These horrendous techniques of the opening bats are ssooo set up to play anything straight through leg ( same as the angry lesbian). Watch for our bowling tactics outside off
-
@siam said in Cricket 2021: NZ in England and WTC Final:
@booboo bedtime mate?🙂 quick snooze?
Off to bed (as soon as Ms Boo Jr gets home from work).
-
Looks like Wags will have a lot of bowling to do today.
-
@donsteppa harsh don, harsh. Early doors
( this post may not age well...) -
I am a Henry fan and what the fuck is Stead doing.
-
Ok. So changes.
Not so bad given Kane & BJ are out.
And don't mind Ajaz over Satnav, nor Cueball Jr over CDGH.
But lack of both Timmah and Kylo is questionable.
For the WTC one of Cueball or Ajaz misses out.
-
This may be a pretty long day at the office. Pitch doesn't look like it's offering much.
-
Did that Sibley fluffybunny start the day with that unlaundered vest? Twat
-
@no-quarter yeah, tough on the ball too. One for wags?
-
Jeepers, Henry averaging 51.68 with the ball in Tests.
-
I'd say these selections were planned well in advance. Get some game time in the first test, then rest up and be raring to go in the final with a bit of (but not too much) cricket under the belt leading into it.
Tests are bloody arduous, they wouldn't want to risk the top players more than they need to. Ideally Boulty would have played the first test and rested for this but was unavailable.

It's a little surprising that he hasn't done better in tests, he certainly has the ability to bowl wicket balls. At the start of his career I thought I'd go better in the longer form but it's been the exact opposite.
-
On the one hand, Henry has had a tough go because he's only ever really got random one off tests when someone has been injured and by bad luck more than normal have been in in favourable conditions.
On the other hand, he's never performed well enough in those random opportunities to stake a claim (compare him to Jamieson), and very few new players will be gifted an extended run in the team.
-

Unless one of them does something extraordinary, I think both will miss out.
I think it will be the ten that everyone agrees on + Satnav, unless they think there's nothing for a spinner.
-
Wags into the attack after a mostly unthreatening spell from the opening bowlers.
-
@no-quarter i also think we misunderstand the necessity of match practice for the pros. I know a few bowling coaches and the guns literally bowl only 24 balls per practice very often. The point being they have the skills and workload isn't going to better that. Conditioning is key once you're good. Debateable if this is the best way but it is very prevalent at top top level. My mates want the novices bowling more but not so much the guns. It's a bit interesting. Some of the t20 guys (I know, but there's a principle) hardly bowl at training all campaign
Batters are the opposite in workload. -
Holding's become a joke
-
Wags getting the ball to move around a bit.
