I noted in that video that the SI was referred to as "Te Waka o Aoraki" which is the Ngai Tahu creation story name.
They must have had the biggest input to creating the name which is why the idea (which I quite liked) of Te Pounamu or similar didn't come about. Good old iwi politics.
I like the new name just think that Pounamu is something most recognise and would tie in with the colour as well.

Let's see if this team plays a game in Dunedin or Nelson, or does "smaller regional grounds" just mean Timaru.
i would love if they did either but have a feeling it will be neither, cheaper to have one home base i imagine

@crucial yeah, and Te Waipounamu is an "offical" name for the south island
There are various names depending on iwi but Te Waipounamu is the one settled on as the official one. Not quite sure how that was negotiated given that NT are the largest and most influential iwi there. Maybe there has been a change of heart among them.
'Te Waka o Maui' and 'Te Waka o Aoraki' are the other main traditional names.
I just noticed that they used the latter in the video which may be a pointer as to why the obvious Pounamu reference hasn't happened.

They stated earlier that as their games may not be aligned with SR games like the other teams they are more likely to play in the regions.

Ruby Tui confirmed that she had a Chiefs contract a few weeks back.
Like most of the sevens women she is based in BOP. I can't remember her playing much XVs so what position? Probably an outside back. If the Chiefs are able to select their best players from within the region they will have a very strong team.

She played wing for CM Heat

So for winger the Chiefs could choose:
Ruby Tui
Stacey Fluhler
Cheyelle Robins-Reti
Michaela Blyde
Langi Veainu
Kelsey TenetiI am assuming Renee Wickliffe joins Woodman at the Blues.
Just mentioned in the sevens 2022 thread that the sevens players may only be available for a couple of games max.
