Whitney Hansen and Tony Christie will join Baxter’s staff while Pip Love, Steph Te Ohaere-Fox, Grace Brooker and Te Rauoriwa Gapper will join the playing ranks.Matatū also confirmed that Bayleys Canterbury will be the team’s principal sponsorship partner, with their logo to appear on the front of the playing jerseys, and that the University of Canterbury will be another partner, with their logo appearing elsewhere on the kit.

i'm in, all the social followed
i hope it wont just be the crusaders with a different name, i know largely it will be, would love to seem at least a nod to the regions, colours on the sleeve cuffs or something
-
@kiwiwomble The colour is teal, not red and black.
-
@stargazer i get that, i was meaning announcing a whole lot of canterbury players makes it looks like the "crusaders", and i get they have the best players largely so was just wondering if they might find other ways to tip the hat to the rest of the south island
-
@kiwiwomble I'm sure there will be Otago players in the squad; probably some from Ta$man, and who knows, there may be a Southland player as well. Maybe Alena Saili?
-
@stargazer wasn't meaning to get too far into the details, really was just meant as a brainstorm on what they could do with the "brand" to grow a bit of connectivity

Good call and yes, there will be some non-Cantab players. I do agree with the comment that it would have been good to announce at least one though. The perception that I have heard from non-Cantab areas is that they will be paid lip service at best.
Most likely though is that no one has signed a contract yet and I do wonder in part if the logistics of living elsewhere in the SI and playing for this team throw up a few hurdles and decisions. eg do you move a place of study to be able to give your best. Those things need a bit of working through before committing.
edit: eg Maia Joseph is only just finishing her first year studying at Otago Uni doing Health Science stuff that isn't available further north. Is she expected to take time out and live in Chch for six weeks? If she can, that's fine but there will be a bit of logistics to work out before signing.

@crucial It may be difficult to combine with some jobs as not all employers may be that flexible, but players who are studying at Otago Uni in Dunedin should be able to arrange something as Otago Uni also has a campus in Christchurch. Maybe via distance learning (streaming lectures).

Didn't know that, thanks.
Thing is though, the women's game draws from quite a young group at the moment and many will be studying etc, others have kids and/or partners that are the main income source for the family.
Nailing down contracts, especially for a team like this one, won't always be a quick process. -
anyone know how its supposed to be pronounced?
Mata - Tu? Ma - Ta - Tu? Ma - Tatu?
would be good to get it right before it get stuck in the old brain the wrong way

Guessing your examples I would say Ma-ta-tū in that those are the syllables.
The u is longer. Not U'U but Uu. Easier to think of not being abrupt with the Tu just a tiny bit longer .
