Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021)

Dalton and Ofa are pretty tall, not sure Ofa will ever quite fix his tackling technique or judgement (it's been a few years now) and I wonder how Dalton can scramble and lower his body given his height and speed-is he a natural 7 or a 6/8 that covers? (Actually, is he a potential 8? too many in that position at the Blues?)
Dalton has the running lines and anticipation of a 7. Jackling is getting to be a rare part of the game now and he can be effective in that regard in the situations that it can happen.
Stopping attacks before the gain line is way more important under the current game management. Once a team gets a roll on they are difficult to legally stop and you need to harass them into an error. -
Is the game the battle for one finals spot if you assume the Crusaders are one finalists.
-
Surely Sowakula covers lock? He's done it before and he's taller than Parker.

@chris don't forget the Highlanders
If they do the job against the Canes then yep for sure they are a chance too.

How you feeling here @Yeetyaah being a staunch Chiefs fan you in with a chance ? I reckon you are a rough chance in this game at home.
-
@kiwimurph I wouldnโt count out the Canes either if they manage to pip the Landers tomorrow night.
-
@canes4life My worry with the Canes is they might have dug themselves too much of a hole with 3 games dropped already and still have to play Blues away and Crusaders again after this weekend. All without a first five.
-
@kiwimurph yeah your probably right. Last week was a must win and they might have too much to bite off from here. I guess the important thing is they build combinations and get some confidence going into the Aus comp and into next year.
-
@yeetyaah said in Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021):
@chris haha I already said above that I'm not confident looking at that team.
I could see an upset.
-
I am pretty confused how Ofa got off his ban though. Reckless dive ending in a shoulder to the face. He's been banned before for the same thing so I dunno how he got off it.
-
@yeetyaah said in Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021):
@chris you'd be the only one. I mean we have confidence and momentum (hopefully) after the win but when I see Parker covering lock and Tupaea still starting in the midfield it's hard to look past it.
Have faith

See below
It is understood the Blues presented detailed video evidence showing Tuโungafasi had entered through the correct channel, had lowered his body, was never off his feet and his first contact had been arm on shoulder.
-
@chris Same tbh. A real banana skin game for the blues here coming off a loss where as the Chiefs are flying high off a win. We lose this and could be in a bit of bother.
-
Completely forgot Lord was injured too. So we are down to playing loose forwards in the second row, and not particularly tall ones at that.
Surely we can call up Pierce as an injury replacement if the Blues aren't using him.

Fully contracted players cannot be called up by other franchises.

-
@stargazer
Wasn't serious, just pointing out that Pierce is carrying tackle bags and we have 3 injured locks. -
Cruel of the Chiefs instagram to show us belting 8 colours of shit out of the Blues in 2009
The names in that Chiefs team...

We could make an exception and give them Blackwell

It's amazing how great he's been in NH, mostly as second five

I guess that the style of play suited him better there and he was able to develop his own game rather than try and become something that wasnโt natural to him.
Thereโs been a few players over the years that have been average to good here but very good there and it isnโt that the level is lower. -
@yeetyaah said in Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021):
Parker covering lock says it all.
Brown will be covering lock. Parker to play 6 when he comes on, but might end up there at the end.
Finau obviously rated ahead of van den Hoven as a lock too.
-
@crucial said in Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021):
Chiefs better hope on not having many scrums in the last 20 minutes.
I'm expecting a tough night in the scrums from minute 1. A lightweight second row, Angus not back to 2019 form doesn't bode well. Avoiding scrums will be the order of the day.
-
@yeetyaah said in Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021):
@bovidae I saw van den Hoven at the Coffee Club today and he had a strapped knee so he's done something.
He's listed as playing for the Dev team tomorrow.
So is Lowe. Wasn't he meant to be unavailable? -
Me thinks Michael Pulman has a problem that the Blues are rising above the tag of being the easy beats of NZ Super rugby.Granted they have not been able to master the Crusader benchmark,but if he had been watching the last two years of better results ,the interest in their improvement is a happy turnaround for their fan base.The so called hype certainly doesnโt come from within,the squad.The comment that ill discipline is hard to eradicate is hard to attach to any single team.They all have their moments.The Crusaders no exception.
-
@trodthesod Yeah, wouldn't worry too much about it. It doesn't matter how good or bad we're travelling, the majority of rugby fans in this country will always want to see us lose
