There's something seriously amiss out in Goon. So competitive the last couple of years but this year they're taking bigger poundings than Jenna Jamieson's shitter. Yesterday it was 75-0 vs Nelson (who to be fair may be the early frontrunner). But this is one helluva fall from grace. I can only assume they had benefited from an outstanding crop of players the last few years and didn't have a succession plan.

Takapuna Grammar 3 - 47 Westlake BHS
Watched this game. Westlake side more skillful and bigger than TGS across the park. TGA beat Rosmini well last week so not sure who else will be competing with Westlake for the harbour title this year based on results to date.

St Andrew’s College would like to welcome Robbie Fruean as a new coach in the College’s Rugby Programme for the 2021 season!
Robbie comes with a wealth of experience and an impressive playing career representing two Mitre 10 Cup teams (Wellington Lions and Hawke's Bay Magpies) and playing for three Super Rugby franchises (Hurricanes, Crusaders and Chiefs) before heading overseas to play for Bath.
Robbie’s goal is to pass on his knowledge to the next generation and help deliver a positive rugby experience to all players he works with in representing the Thistle! -

Be interesting, unsure how strong Rotorua is currently, but surely be much too strong for WBHS?
-
@taniwharugby I saw that. Rotorua is very tough to beat at home. Good luck anyway.
-
@bovidae WBHS were beaten finalists in the NH comp last year, but unsure the quality of that comp when it comes to the bigger rugby schools.
I do know a few more of the boys in the team than previous years so following a bit closer.
-
@taniwharugby Rotorua BHS lost to Hamilton BHS in the Super 8 final last year, and they (RBHS) are perennial semi-finalists in that competition. The Super 8 would be the second strongest 1st XV competition behind the Auckland 1A. A quick look at the results of Whangarei BHS so far shows they lost 17-7 to MAGS, who I watched play last Sat, so this could be a close game.

Second strongest comp? What do you base that assertion on?

The National Top 4 results. There have been multiple winners from both the 1A and Super 8 over the last decade. A South Island team hasn't even made the final since OBHS in 2012. Scots the only team from the Wellington region over the same period.

First strongest I think was what @shark had to be meaning, half the winners of the last 20 years have been Super 8.

If we look at the results from 2010 to present, the following teams have been winners or finalists:
Auckland 1A - MAGS, Kelston, St Kents, St Peter's, King's
Super 8 - Hamilton BHS, Rotorua BHS, Hastings BHS, Napier BHS
CNI - Wesley
Wellington - Scots
South Island - Otago BHS -
