The comp is fucked, basically the winner every single year will come from Perth, Melbourne, or Sydney. Illawarra have a good team too and may surprise. The Breakers need their old owner back who pumped heaps of money in to the team. No one else has the budget to compete.
I don't think the Blackwoods spent much more than the current lot. But when they won their titles the team was stacked with tall Blacks, and the NBL operated under the player point system that ensured even strength of teams. Now there are no controls teams with deep pockets that you mentioned are free to spend at will and buy themselves a championship. I think they got out as they could see it wasn't possible to keep up with escalating costs
they spent fuckloads, and that Breakers team had a better bench 5 than half the competition was starting. Great sides who were well coached.
The current lot can't keep pace with the big guns. But I'm not sure these NBA g league types help us much. The French kid is good. But mostly they are too green to be that influential

and so, finally, the regular season comes to a close
The Taipans end their season by having the highest score by a team all season, and Taj McCall having the most points by an individual for the season (42).
His stat line is pretty sweet
36 minutes
42 points
4 rebounds
10 assists
4 steals
1 block
65% shootingAnyway, it was only the Bullets, and they were smoked by injuries, and according to one of their coaches, a couple of blokes who just straight up didn't want to play.
Biggest news for the weekend was that Perth, after 26 straight years, did not make the semis, finishing 5th behind the newbies in Tasmania.
The Breakers ended a very tough year with another loss. No shade on them though, another season spent on the road, playing half their games in random empty stadiums.
One assumes it will be Melbourne v Sydney in the finals. But who gives a shit?

I lost interest in the NBL very early on, and I can't remember the last Breakers game I watched. I was reading an interesting article about the Breakers season over the weekend. Walsh has some big decisions to make in the off-season.
Great to read that Perth missed out. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

They just don't appear to want or be able to spend the kind of money that Perth, Sydney and Melbourne can. Acting as a proving ground for young green NBA draft talent does not help

I
suffered throughwatched every game. It was very tough going.Watched Perth lose in OT to miss out on the playoffs for the first time in 35 years. Amazing record but brings a smile to face that they missed out.
Also South East Melbourne missing out was good to.
Kings v Hawks series is going to be great
Amazing that the Jackjumpers made top 4 in their inaugural season. I give them a starters chance against United and given they won last game and pushed them in one other, you never know.

dude that's impressive
i watched far more Taipans games than is healthy
Every home game was basically the same. Gutsy fighting first half to be about even. Score 10 points in the 3rd. Gutsy doomed fightback in the 4th, lose by 12.
Rinse. Repeat. Our roster stinks. Hopefully nearly everyone gets sacked (some idiot at head office gave Djeric a multi-year deal. Even though we are broke i would pay him out and fuck him off. absolutely useless).
One of the big money teams will throw money at McCall.
I doubt Machado comes back.I would keep Pinder (the surprise of the season) McCall, and Kuol. I think we already have Deng signed up for next year, but i hope it's on dirt money. Everyone else gets fired. Oh, except our fill in guard who looks really promising. He's Jarrod Kenny but with points.

Get that into ya!
Jackjumpers into the Grand Final. Massive win in Melbourne against United. Fairytale stuff making the big dance in their debut season.

Have they spent a lot or have they just built a good team?

I only tuned into the last 2mins, pretty wild stuff. Is it just me or does Adams remind anyone else of Delonte West...
I'm actually contemplating going to the game on Friday now!

Nice comparison. The looks plus the streaky yet effective play.
Sydney will be tough.

They don’t have any big name Aussie players and you wouldn’t say that their imports are world beaters. But they are well coached (Mika Vukona is involved) and have a nitty gritty, scrap to the end attitude to their play.
Lots of good pieces and fortune favoured them with Chris Goulding being out of tonight’s game

Sounds like a nice counterpoint to the big spending Melbourne and Sydney

Some great defence by both teams in this game but Boston hitting some big contested 3s

Giannis gets some good superstar whistle when he drives to the rim
