Curiously, I believe we have not played a test at Southampton and India have played 2 lost 2.
NZ played an ODI there during 2015 tour and 2013 tour.
We didn't play there during 2019 world cup.
The ground wasn't used at all in the 2017 Champions Trophy. We played a tour match there v Hampshire on the 2008 tur, of which Ross Taylor and Tim Southee are the only remaining current players.

@dan54 g'day mate, hope you are well?
I would have thought that a June test at Lords would suit us down to the ground tbh. we should be very confident going into that with the conditions it will provide. In London, typically May has good weather for 1-2 weeks and everything thinks 'bring it on' and it then is quite shitty weather with quite a bit of rain.
I also think having it at Lords will inspire NZ after our last final there. case of unfinished business at that same ground. Lords wont be full I wouldn't have thought. If so, I would expect a huge Indian contingent to attend.
If it is a reduced or no crowd, then that would be another advantage to us, as it would be just like playing a test match in NZ
Covid is on the retreat in London, so I expect by June that the match will be at Lords. They will do all they can to stage it at Lords Imo.
Southampton would be a bit drier wicket. I played Southern league cricket (next step up is county level) in the 90's in Hampshire and the wickets were incredibly good for batting. it would be a disadvantage for us if it was shifted down there.
B Dickey and I will be trying to get tickets for Lords (fingers crossed)
hope you are well mate and enjoying NZ life againHey mate, yep I am well and loving every minute of life being back home in NZ. I was real happy with Indians making finals , as I think at lords we get a good chance of conditions that are quite suitable for our seamers, and with a bit of cloud cover maybe a bit of swing? I sure hope you and Brendon swing a couple of tickets, haha I can almost hear someone in Brisbane gnashing his teeth at the thought of you 2 buggers being at the test without him!

So apparently the Aussies are a bit annoyed that they missed out because they were docked points for a slow over rate.
If the underarm was in the rules, maybe time to see if slow over rate punishments were also in the rules. Perhaps they crossed a line they often insist they never do?
-
This is why it is even funnier:
Langer claimed that the team had no idea they were behind the required over rate by enough of a margin to incur a penalty until after the Test concluded, despite regular updates always being provided by match officials. "Our manager Gavin Dovey had gone home ... for Christmas with his family in England, and it wasn't until after the game that we realised our over rate was down," Langer told SEN Radio. "That's really slack on our behalf, but I remember we were in the team room afterwards and I spoke to Painey and Dene Hills, our analyst, about it. I was a bit grumpy about it and I thought 'imagine if this cost us the World Test Championship'.

it's classic - but I bet he didn't think that. Otherwise it would have come out by now
Also, the Aussies missing out because of slow over rates is very humorous. I think subconsciously they figured they'd smoke India at the Gabba, win the series, and it wouldn't matter.

Aust also cancelled away series against Bangladesh and South Africa.
SA would have had a good crack at them I reckon, in home conditions. Especially if crowds with sandpaper were in there...
CA tried to move that series to Aust. The Bangles would have provided easy points.

I don't think the Aussies have played the Bangles south of Darwin have they?

So, when do you think this test championship started?
I was surprised to read it only kicked off in August 2019.
So, 2 years to play all the series, and then find the 2 best, ain't long. Throw in a travel restricting pandemic and there's a fair bit of luck for whoever makes the final.
However, is it 1v2 in the test rankings?
