I've said this before but Mitch is a deeply flawed selection at test level. He's basically there to give us a bit of batting insurance, but it's not needed with our current crop of players. It's such a defensive selection and it does my head in. A 42 average with a 96 SR is laughably bad stats after 20 odd tests, he's nothing more than a part timer with the ball.

I think he's also there as bowling insurance - had Wagner been unable to bowl, Santner would have been bowling a lot more.

If CDG is fit I guess Mitch is out. Even so, on our pitches we could and should play a more attacking bowling option. Even though he has a 100, Mitch can only dine out on that and be framed as a legitimate batting option for so long
